[community profile] trickortreatex authors are revealed! I wrote five things, which I'm lumping here all in one post for convenience. I had a lot of fun playing in basically all my fandoms, especially since the Buffy characters I want to write usually aren't eligible for exchanges.

However, out of the bunch I definitely had a couple of favorites: the hockey fic (which at 4k feels absurdly long for a treat in a 300 word exchange, but oh well) and the steampunk Meg/Castiel. Because, you know, steampunk Meg/Castiel. Even if the fic doesn't really have a plot, as such.

When In Doubt, Set It On Fire - hockey RPF, Crosby/Ovechkin, 4000 words
First Sidney tells Alex Consol's ice is cursed. Then he says he has a plan to fix it. Then he stops talking to Alex very much at all, and that's when Alex starts to get worried. -- More monster-y than actual horror, it turned out. Oh well.

bright wings - SPN, Meg/Castiel, 1200 words
Castiel has metal wings. Meg has an oil can. -- AKA the steampunk fic. :DDD

The Beginning of a Beautiful Friendship - SPN, Meg + Bela friendship, 700 words
Meg goes to hell in search of loyal subjects. She thinks she may have found one. -- A treat for [livejournal.com profile] gryfndor_godess, with bonus Meg kvetching of Crowley's redecorating scheme. :D

Enough to Make a Girl Feel All Gooey - BtVS, Buffy/Faith, 500 words
Buffy told Faith to stay in Cleveland. Yeah, right. -- A treat for [livejournal.com profile] brutti_ma_buoni, theoretically an AU of the Wishverse. Yes, an AU of the AU. Hush.

wherever you go, there you are - MCU, Natasha + Bucky, 500 words
Natasha thought about the places she’d like to hide, given a choice. She ordered them by practicality, and she started at the bottom. -- My first MCU fic! Behold!

Title: Best Thing Going
Fandom: Supernatural
Pairing: Meg/Castiel
Words / Rating: 2700 / light NC-17
Spoilers: through 8.17
Summary: “My angel,” she says. Then she chokes on her own blood awhile, and there are sirens, and fuck she doesn’t want sirens. “Castiel’s my angel, and you gotta pray to him, okay?”

A/N: Today is my birthday, flist! And as usual, as a thank you to you all for another year of being awesome and wonderful, thoughtful and kind and creative and obsessive about all the things I care about, I write you a fic! Uh, usually they're a bit broader-interest than this; the past three years have all been gen. This is not gen. However, it's happy AU porn with fluff, which also appeals to some people, I'm told?

(Honestly, if I hadn't posted this, I wouldn't be posting anything at all; it's been a busy and tumultuous month on top of a fairly non-productive summer, writing-wise, and as late as Sunday I thought I was going to have to pass this year. I hope my Buffy people and Sam-and-Dean-only people will forgive me for the lack of fic relevant to their interests.)

Anyway, I started this a day or two after 8.17 aired and then completely failed to finish it any timely fashion. So. Here it is now for you, flist. My life would be much the poorer without you. <3 <3 <3

Also available at AO3.

She comes to with some pimply teenager hanging over her face, asking if she’s okay. )

I was looking through my old recs for someone looking for het curtainfic, and discovered, rather to my surprise, that it's a category of fic I basically never rec. I read it sometimes - I'm pretty sure I have links stashed in my giant me-locked posts full of links - but apparently I never tell you guys about it.

I think this ties into a realization I've been having repeatedly recently, which is that while I ship primarily het ships, I'm... not a het shipper? Which is to say, just because I ship a lot of het ships doesn't mean I have much interest in Het: The Shipping Phenomenon (except as a phenomenon, because fandom trends and tastes never cease to fascinate me).

and then I go on at length )

Title: you were meant for me (perhaps as punishment)
Fandom: Supernatural
Pairing: Meg/Castiel
Words / Rating: 2400 words / hard R for sex
Content / Warnings: hallucinations, temporary character death, blood
Spoilers: through 8.07 A Little Slice of Kevin
Summary: Castiel's in Purgatory, one step ahead of the leviathan and with no one's company but his own. And Meg's, but she's not real, of course.

A/N: written for [livejournal.com profile] spnspringfling for the prompt "wherever I go, there you are." I was tickled pink for an excuse to write more Meg/Castiel, especially once I lighted on the idea of purgatory, which has fascinated me as a setting since 7.23.

We'll see if I manage to follow through and rec things all week, but for now, here are my favorites for the first few days (with the caveat that I read very little Sam/Dean and am unlikely to rec porn unless it's also got good character stuff I like).

Please note that all these are anonymous! Author reveals don't happen until later. Also, they're all under 2500 words.

It's Always Sunny in Area 51 - Dean+Cas, PG-13
Military/SF AU, in which Dean gets lost in the military complex known as Area 51 and runs into a nerdy scientist type with zero socials skills. Neat Dean+Sam dynamic, too, and the final image is great.

We Are Only Free Inside These Walls - Meg/Castiel, R
Every so often, Meg and Castiel play hookey from their respective duties and meet in the middle. A far future fic with some neat angel/demon ship aspects to it. Also, hairbrushing. I really like the interplay between them here.

Devil's Luck - Sam/Dean, PG-13
LADYHAWKE AU, YOU GUYS. From an OC demon's perspective in second person POV, which I realize will lose some people, but this is SO GREAT. It's dark but not too dark, the narrator voice is great, the slow unfolding of what's happening is great. For those concerned about the ship, it reads as basically gen expect for one line of implied Sam/Dean. It's great fun, y'all.

A Thin Veneer - J2, PG-13
FBI AU, in which Jared got stuck in white collar crimes years ago on account of freezing in action, and now is the one-man welcome wagon for the guy just coming out from deep undercover. This fic is mostly character, and very nicely done character work it is, too. The slow development of Jared's relationship with Jensen and the emotion of the finish really worked for me.

The Wall Between Us - ART, Dean+Cas, NSFW (gore)
Dean may or may not have acquired a pet komodo dragon in purgatory. One way or the other, the giant lizard in the picture no doubt explains why Dean is holding a corpse by its hair. Great composition, very dramatic lighting, this fic invites all sorts of stories to explain it.

When You Put It Like That - ART, Victor+Bela, SFW
Noir AU! W00t! Is he the world-weary cop doing what he can in a city full of scum? Is she the sticky-fingered moll who sometimes gifts him with information sometimes? They snark a lot, but neither of them ever mention that one incident when they got drunk together after a gunfight...

Title: Look What We Did
Fandom: Supernatural
Pairing: Meg/Castiel
Words/Rating: 440 words / PG-13
Warnings: mpreg, plotless fluff
Spoilers: nothing factual, although you'll probably want to have seen at least through the end of S7 for the character stuff to make sense.
Summary: "I suppose it is a kind of miracle."

A/N This and watching 8.20 were what I did tonight instead of work on bb. Probably there will be no more of this; it's just, I saw Tumblrites writing Meg/Cas babyfic, and I couldn't help myself. Plus I've been wanting to write Meg/Cas for ages anyway.

“This shouldn’t be possible,” Castiel says. )

1. Meg/Cas Week on Tumblr, March 25-31, which I already have a fic idea for. :DDD

2. [livejournal.com profile] rocksalt_recs is looking for reccers for April. This reccing comm, less than a year old, is already one of my favorite fannish resources for fic. I'm particularly fond of the categories for rarer stuff - minor characters and het and non-J2 RPF - but there's plenty of stuff for more mainstream genres and pairings as well. Basically, it is THE BEST THING, but it only works if lots of people like you sign up and make it awesome.

(And in case you're worried that maybe the stuff you like isn't the right stuff to rec, I was worried about that, too, at first, but seriously, if you like it, then it is the right stuff.)

3. I totally failed to mention this before the first round closed, but [livejournal.com profile] spnartistswap is a super nifty-looking challenge comm for artists where people submit sketches and then swap and make finished pieces. First results to be posted sooon!

I'm sort of Dean/Cas-adjacent in that a lot of my first SPN friends - from before I even got into the fandom - shipped it, and also I read a fair amount of fic, because the AU stuff is often full of tropey goodness. But try as I might, I don't care about them in a romantic sense. This season has given me a lot feelings about their canonical relationship, but even then, I'm much more interested in it as a non-romantic one. Adding sex and romance subtract interest for me.

But. It turns out I can totally ship prickly/sexy/fond/unsentimental/bitey Cas/Meg. (Yes. Definitely bitey.) And I can ship casual/fun/experimental Cas/Jo where he's uptight but curious and she's totally willing to show the hot, amusing weirdo the ropes - or just introduce him to cheesy 80s movies. Whichever.

They're neither of them epic, stop the presses ships; they're more about, ah, ships passing in the night and deriving some mutual satisfaction in the encounter. The types of satisfaction vary a little between the ships, but the basic idea's the same. Also there's an element of experienced!lady/inexperienced!guy about each of them, which I like.

Conclusion: I need ladies in my ships. News at 11.

Het mpreg appears in the wild! Meg/Cas mpreg, even, with all the prickliness and fondness and occasional heat a person could desire, and set in S8, just to put the cherry on top of the sundae. Hie thee forthwith and read The Upper Peninsula by [livejournal.com profile] downjune. Because it is ALL THAT IS WONDERFUL.
