See my adorable icon! The art is by humon (at DeviantArt), and I found it here, where can be found likely the darlingest (if not the most scientifically accurate) artwork you will ever see depicting the reproductive habits of hyenas, cuttlefish, and tamarins. And also seahorses.

In pursuit of academic excellence, I watched the ST:TOS episode "The Trouble with Tribbles" today. (Tribbles make excellent exponential function problems.)

And, uh. I was kind of charmed. It was so silly! It's been years and years since I've watched TOS, long before I developed any taste. All the ST I've seen in the last few years, mostly early TNG with clips of DS9 or Enterprise here and there, has been so dreadfully, laughably earnest. Whereas this knew precisely how silly it was and ran with it. I didn't even hate Kirk! Plus I have a weakness for 60s TV, with the over-bright sets and the stiff non-acting.

So I might be watching some more?

(In slightly related news, can anyone point me to a Firefly icon that incorporates Zoe's line, "We live in a spaceship, Dear"? I want a Joss-related explicitly SF-themed icon.

ETA: Check out the totally nifty icon [personal profile] next_to_normal made me! Isn't it spiffy?)

1. Reply to this post with "Icons, Plz!" and I
will pick five of your icons.
2. Make a post (including the meme info) and talk about the icons I chose.
3. Other people can then comment to you and make their own posts.
4. This will create a never-ending cycle of icon glee.

Icons below selected by [livejournal.com profile] penny_lane_42, who startled me somewhat by titling her comment, "THE PORN ONE! THE PORN ONE!" If you are me, that is not an email title that you expect in your inbox.

Iconses! )

For example, my algorithm for finding SPN icons:

1. Go to journal of BtVS icon maker I like
2. Look up SPN tag
3. Snag yummy icons
4. Repeat

Seriously, of all my favorite icon makers - I've looked up maybe eight tonight - only one hadn't made at least a few SPN icons.

I had a lovely birthday. It involved milkshakes and snuggling down with the roommates to watch a movie. It also involved getting lovely things for you all! (Most of them were not earmarked as birthday things in particular, but if they're for me and within a week of the day, I say they count.) Specifically,

* Higher Than an Eagle - more Faith/Giles wingfic from [livejournal.com profile] brutti_ma_buoni for Fall Fandom Free-For-All. I think I like this installment even better than the first one.

* Restless icons from [livejournal.com profile] knifeedgefic, also for the Free-For-All. See for example my Miss Kitty icon! They're all gorgeous, and Knife did really interesting things with caps that aren't iconed as often.

* A lovely bunch of birthday balloons from [livejournal.com profile] green_maia.

Thank you so much! Thanks, too, everyone, for the lovely birthday wishes.

Lookie at the Seraphverse icon [livejournal.com profile] ruuger made me! Isn't it lovely?

I feel as though I ought to write a little something in the 'verse just so I can show off the icon... *g*

The what icon do you associate me with? meme!

1. Do not look at the comments.
2. Take a look at my userpics. [actually, seems to me the most interesting results come from what comes to your mind without peeking, but whatever]
3. Post a comment with the icon of mine you associate with me. Leave commentary if desired.
4. Repost with your default icon and profit.

It occurred to me today that it had been, like, months since I'd gone trawling [livejournal.com profile] indulging_breck's journal for icons. So I went, and I snagged yummy things. She has an entire series of ten icons for each episode BtVS episode through "Restless," and they are absolutely fab. *points to Willow foreshadowing icon of win*

MAH ICONS.

HOW MANY ICONS DO YOU HAVE: 93
OUT OF HOW MANY AVAILABLE ICONS SPACES: 110
IF YOU COULD BUY SPACE FOR MORE, WOULD YOU: Probably not. Having too many icons gets unwieldy after a while.
DO YOUR ICONS MAKE A STATEMENT: That I really, really like Buffy the Vampire Slayer? Also that I have fabulous taste in icons.
WHAT FANDOM DO YOU HAVE THE MOST ICONS OF: The Buffyverse, natch.
AND THE SECOND MOST: Firefly
WHAT SHIP DO YOU HAVE THE MOST ICONS OF: Romantic, Buffy/Spike. But overall, definitely Spike/Dawn friendship.
ARE YOUR ICONS MADE MOSTLY BY OTHER PEOPLE: All of them here, yes. I've been known to make icons of very specific things (math, a photo of myself) for non-fannish purposes.
ANIMATED ICONS ARE: incredibly hard to do well

Reply to this post, and I will tell you my favorite icon of yours. Then post this to your own journal using your own favorite icon.

Choosing my own favorite was extremely difficult. It depends on the day, and even just today there are about five.

I finally settled on this one: one of [livejournal.com profile] indulging_breck's clever juxtapositions of image and dialogue from the same episode. It's from "School Hard," of course, and Buffy's talking to Spike, but I love it because I can as easily apply the line to Buffy herself, first in S2 (oh, Angelus arc of utter angst!) and then for her entire Slayer career. As often as she rebuilds herself piece by piece, Slaying shatters her again. There are moments of triumph, but also a great deal of brokeness.

(Of course, the line is also prescient about the nature of Spike's experiences with the Slayer - lots and lots of pain. However, since Buffy's the one pictured, I don't tend to think of the icon as being about him.)

All that from a cap and one line that was about something else entirely in canon.

On a visual level, the completely washed-out color gives Buffy a very ghostly, ethereal appearance that I really like.
