excuses to write comics fic abound

Somehow there are suddenly tons of events I can write and request comics for! So exciting!

marvelgrabbag is a promptfest, where you make 4-5 Marvel-related prompts and then later claim at least one prompt for your very own. The signup process is not the most intuitive, because signups are on AO3 for claims that will be on LJ, but whatever. Here's the list of prompts so far. Anyone who's been paid any attention to any of my fest signups in the last six months will recognize most of my prompts, and anyone who knows me at all will recognize the rest. :D

Night on Fic Mountain is Yuletide in the summer, basically. For all of us who have trouble participating in Yuletide as much as we'd like because of holidays/family/dial-up, this is THE PERFECT THING. I'm super excited about the comics fandoms that've been nominated.

Not Prime Time, the fest for mid-size fandoms is running again this year. Last near I had no fandoms that qualified; this year, between comics and hockey, I have plenty! I'M GOING TO ASK FOR HOCKEY FIC. I... may already have my entire Dear Author letter written.

Meanwhile, for more immediate gratification, I already mentioned MCU + all kinds of comics kink meme, for which you should prompt things so I have something to fill. Also there's marvel_cinekink, which is MCU only and therefore not so relevant to my interests but which nonetheless presently features this WIP which delves into the Winter Soldier's post-movie identity issues in lots of delicious hurty ways.

Ugh yes I know, I accidentally prompted something without going anon, after going to the options and THINKING I had. I deleted it, so I hope it doesn't get me into trouble. >< BECAUSE I DON'T MIND DOING IT IN ANON, I'm just not used to it lol.

:DDD. There are actually only a handful of Marvel characters I even know. I figure, given the number of Penguins nominated, that it is highly likely I match on hockey for that one instead, but I would be perfectly fine with that.

Whereas Fic Mountain has a ton of individual titles that I'd be interested in trying. It's a whole lot less daunting for me to offer to write "any" for Loki: Agent of Asgard than it is to offer to write Loki for Marvel 616, because there's so much Loki I haven't read. Offering for individual titles stresses me out a lot less.

It is very convenient when you can break comics fandoms apart like that. It looks like nominations are over for Fic Mountain, though? I will probably try to do Not Prime Time since I did get my nominations in over there. Are you going to do both?

I miiiight do both? It depends on whether Marvel Grab Bag takes off. I kinda like the idea of it better than Fic Mountain in terms of requesting stuff, but last I checked there were only three people signed up, so it might be a no go. Either way, I might end up treating for Fic Mountain if I get a chance.

I'm committed to NPT, though. :D

Oh, now I'm not sure if they're closed. I had actually found the tag set and was assuming since it didn't give me an option to nominate that they were closed. But it occurs to me now that I'm not logged into my AO3 account and that's probably why, since it says nominations are open.

Marvel Grab Bag sounds like it would be really cool if it worked, but it might be hard to make it work.

I feel like administering Marvel Grab Bag via AO3 is not helping it at all, and I honestly have no idea why that decision was made. All you need is to have people make individual prompts on LJ and screen the comments, and then collect them all in one post. AO3 signups just seem like a lot of busywork for everyone.

However, I do love the idea of people picking specific prompts of mine and being able to pick specific prompts from other people in a more structured environment than a kink meme.

It does seem really cool that you can ask for the prompt you want to write and have some control over your assignment that way. On the other hand, what if one person only comes up with prompts that no one wants to claim? And if you pick just one prompt, that might give you less leeway for different ideas if it proves harder to write than anticipated.

I would imagine if no one claimed any of a particular person's prompts, the mod might ask the person to make some additional prompts, like if it's an exchange and one person is unmatchable.
