I had wondered why everyone talked about getting comics via pull lists at their comic shop, when Marvel, at least, has subscriptions that are so much cheaper than retail price. I have found at least one reason why: because the expected time after release for my subscribed issue to get to me is 2-3 weeks. Which. :\

So I shall have to decide if I care enough to pay $1.50 - $2 more for timeliness.

I didn't realize they were delayed like that. I looked into subscriptions when I first started reading comics but then I sort of forgot about them. I don't even have a pull list though--my store usually has all the things I want to read and then I don't feel like I'm committed to buy anything before I see it. (although I think technically there isn't necessarily an obligation involved with a pull list.)

Yeah, they're so much cheaper - they're 33% or 44% off the cover price, which is awfully attractive. That's low enough to justify getting a trade later if I end up really wanting one. The 3 week delay is off-putting, though. :\

I've also wondered about trying to sell my comics back to the store for the really pretty runs, so that I could offset having to pay for the issues and the trade. But I have no idea what kind of money they give you for that.

Yeah, I have no idea. If the run's pretty recent, I'd suspect they'd still have as many new copies around as they'd want? But I really have no idea. I've yet to set foot in an actual comics shop. :)

I think what they do with those is they either put them in the discount bin, or if they are in good quality and you have a full arc sometimes they wrap them in plastic and sell them as a run. Or something like that.

*nods* I looked in subscriptions when the Buffy comics first came out, then realized I'd be getting them so long after everybody else did that I'd already know what happened in each issue. :)
