TV and me

For a while now I've been casting about for a new show to care about. See the list:

* I've pretty much given up on Farscape, even as background noise; I'm just so horribly bored. (I got as far as 1.17, Through the Looking Glass.)

* I have a list of must-see Damon/Elena TVD eps (courtesy [livejournal.com profile] ever_neutral and [livejournal.com profile] upupa_epops), but I haven't gotten to it yet.

* For Reasons, I tried Teen Wolf, about a high school kid who gets bitten and has to deal. I found the protagonist cute but dull and the angsty Angel 2.0 adult werewolf exceedingly broody, but protagonist's BFF, Stiles, is pretty much the most adorable thing EVAR. I want to cuddle him for always. If I pick up the show again, it will be solely for him.

* I watched the pilot of Wildfire - ABC Family show about a girl fresh out of juvie working on a horse racing farm - solely for the purpose of looking at Genevieve Cortese's face. Apparently I am a fangirl now. I wanted the protag's two would-be suitors to both die in a fire, but mostly I enjoyed everyone else. The writing was flabby, though. Does anyone know if it gets better? I assume not, since I didn't know the show existed until Netflix recommended it to me, but if people told me it was watchable I might try it again.

All of this is prelude to: I started Mad Men, and you guys, I'm pretty sure I'm sticking with this one. YOU GUYS. I'll have more to say soon.

It pains me that you stopped one episode just before Elijah got interesting, lol.

Ditto. You also stopped right before Farscape got interesting, LOL!

Like, if you haven't seen Elijah and deals, you haven't seen Elijah at all, lol. (Not to mention the eyesexing, lol.) No, but D/E episodes notwithstanding, I'd say go to 2.15 on TVD, Snick. If you don't like where the show is going by then, then it's probably not for you. 2.16 if you want to give liking Katherine another go.

I'm not sure one more interesting character, give or take, is going to make the difference on that show.

I just have Elijah ~feelings, because before him, TVD was just a show that I watched, and then it became a show that I was obsessed with. But Elijah is the character that's sort of the king of uneasy alliances.

Now, see, even though I love Elijah (and Damon, and Alaric, and Stefan, and Tyler, and Klaus!!!, and Jeremy...), I'm actually all about the ladies on that show.

Can you love TVD without loving Katherine? I don't know...

It took me way past 2.09 to love Katherine. Yeah, that was her backstory ep, but it wasn't until we saw more of her in S2 that I really got her.

I hear you. I kind of loved to hate her at first. She was just fierce. And then I just loved her. :-)

And if you haven't seen Nerve/The Hidden Memory, then you haven't seen Farscape. I mean, you haven't even met Scorpius yet! He first shows up in Nerve. (episode 19) He's such a great Big Bad.

*sigh* But I'm so bored.

I may skip, uh, Bugs or whatever it is next and try the two-parter. We'll see.

Yeah, I get it. The first season does take a LONG TIME to find it's footing. But the second season...

In case you're interested...

Farscape: the skip it/watch it guide

If you're wanting just a couple more, go with Nerve/Hidden Memory, and then skip over to The Way We Were.

(But everyone's right: season one is necessary background; season two is when it gets good.)

Ooh, thank you for the link! I may give the show one more try, with the eps you recommend. We'll see.

I will get to them eventually, if for no other reason than because I want to read this handful of good D/E fics y'all say exist.

I hate to admit it because everyone (well, everyone except you!) loves farscape so, but I"ve never been able to get into it either. I find it reassuring that I'm not alone!

But keep Madmen. Even when you hate all the characters except Sally and the maid madmen is worth watching!

Mad Men is a great show, though it can also be incredibly depressing. The writing and acting are excellent, and it has maintained the same high quality throughout five seasons.

I tried Teen Wolf for several weeks, but I did find everyone except Stiles really boring, so I had to give it up.

Nearly everyone on my flist is a huge Farscape fan, but I've never been able to get into it either. I keep thinking I'll try it again someday, but I just haven't been able to drum up any enthusiasm for doing so.

I can definitely see how it could get depressing. Right now I'm still be distracted by the novelty and how pretty everything is, and yet I'm still overcome with small bouts of fury a couple of times an episode.

I really would like to like Farscape, because I don't have enough science fiction shows in my life. No luck so far, though.

It always makes me happy to hear that I'm not the only one who couldn't get into Farscape :D

I watched it all the way through because people kept telling me it would get better once I get to [insert episode here] but it never did. There were some interesting ideas, and on an intellectual level I could see why people would love the show, but the characters left me completely cold and the whole thing was just so boring.

Apparently you are in good company with Farscape; a lot of other folks on this thread are saying the same thing. :)

AWWWW.

Just. AWWWW.

You know, I still feel a little weird/shy/awkward fangirling, like, Jensen. I have no trouble at all fangirling her. Or Julie McNiven, for that matter.
