I'm having that problem where I can't remember if the scene I'm remembered is from canon or fic.

Does an angel at some point tell the boys that they've drawn their devil's trap / angel sigil / mystical symbol wrong, but he helped design it and shows them a better one? Or is this fic? I feel like it might come from Damned, by goldenusagi? I'm not sure.

EDIT: goldenusagi confirmed that the line I remembered was indeed from her fic. Oh, well.

That was definitely in my fic, lol. Though it's fanon that Cas might have designed the original one, because in 4.16 he says "No demon could escape that trap. I designed it myself." So he does design some.

Ha ha. Well. I guess I won't use that in my fic, then. But I'd forgotten Cas saying that it in 4.16! Neat. I need to rewatch that ep soon.

On the topic of sigils: One thing I found interesting about the angel banishment sigil that Cas first uses in 4.22 is Dean replicating it in 5.01. Granted, Dean has been doodling mystical symbols all his life, but basically, Dean saw it drawn once, memorized it, and was able to recreate it on his first try. And even though Anna also used it, she obviously didn't teach Dean how, as he says "I learned that from my friend Cas."

I would assume that Cas also showed them the sigils that keep angels out or that hide you from angels (because if it was written down somewhere, surely they would have used them before then), which I don't think appear until S6, not counting the rib carvings.

And it doesn't help that the particular fic I remembered the scene from, I helped beta, which means I possibly read it more times than I've seen that era of canon. :D
