1. Sign-ups for [livejournal.com profile] rarewomen close today.

2. Sam and Dean's sexual relationships are an irregularly recurring theme over at [livejournal.com profile] feliciakw's blog, and the latest installment, here, has to do with 7.13 The Slice Girls, and also has links to previous discussion. Very interesting stuff! I don't tend to focus on the sex scenes, so it's really interesting to me to see someone carefully analyzing the characterization shown in them.

3. So [personal profile] ghostyouknow is writing knotting fic now. (Possibly I am chortling over this.) Specifically she has just posted Wannabe, which is pre-Gen/Misha and which Ghost describes as "the fic in which I see if I can write something approaching het omega/omega femslash." No, really.

I tell you true, I think the alpha/beta/omega dynamics that come out of knotting fic offer scope for some of the most interesting gender exploration I've ever seen. (Er, not that that's exactly my field of expertise, so take the superlative with a grain of salt.) The worldbuilding is so much fun to play with.

The problem with advertising it to other folks is that a) much of the good stuff is happening in RPF, which is a turn-off to plenty of fannish people and presumably completely mystifying to non-fannish people, and b) the tropes are in active development, and that development is nonlinear, happening across several fandoms in dozens of often only tangentially-related fics, many of them basically PWP with bonus worldbuilding. I don't know what I'd point people to as an introduction.

But the possibilities here, they are really cool, folks.

I am torn between happiness at your cheerleading and complete and utter shame. *g*

Actually, I think one of the major issues with rare pairing het RPF is... where the Hell do you find/post it? I am going to have to hope someone posts a *really* serendipitous kinkmeme request: "yes, I would like a het rare-pairing omega/omega high school RPF AU, hopefully with zero sexytimes."

I guess for an introduction, there's really only "search knotting tags" and "visit the knotting comm." I mean, there are really no hard and fast rules of the genre. There's no, "Oh, hey, this is the quintessential knotting fic."

And, y'know, it's not a uniform thing like, say, Spuffy prophecy baby fic, which typically proceeds in the same way. So, yeah, it's hella nifty, but there's nothing for it except to dive right in.

It's the truth! There's AO3, although the problem with searching on, say, the Gen/Jared tag is that most of the resulting fics are J2 with background Gen/Jared (mostly of the "Gen's a heinous bitch" variety).

Actually, [livejournal.com profile] spn_het accepts RPF, but very few people post it there, and I tend to doubt many people look for it there. Then again, I doubt very many people are looking for it anywhere. That's the real problem, I think: I have no doubt there are folks out there who'd read and cheer on het RPF, but they're all scattered. What we need is a het RPF comm. Clearly.

I am so not the person to start something like that, because I don't know the RPF community nearly well enough, but now I want to anyway! Drat!

As for your serendipitous kinkmeme request, as you have previously pointed out, many of those things are anonymous. Nothing wrong with making your own serendipity. *g*

They do all tend to run together, and I would actually point to that as a flaw of the Spuffy prophecy baby trope, or at least in the execution of it.

But that's a big reason why I've stopped reading Spuffy, for the most part: most of the longfics follow one of maybe four or five storylines, and it gets old.

I did post there and at take_the_knot. Unfortunately, most RPF comms are also RPS comms and I have a feeling omega/omega still counts as het, if the characters/actors would form a het pairing in real life and there's no obvious genderswap (like, girl!Sam is a beta who falls for alpha!Jo would probably squeak by).

That's the real problem, I think: I have no doubt there are folks out there who'd read and cheer on het RPF, but they're all scattered. What we need is a het RPF comm. Clearly.
Or even just for "RPF/SPN ladies comm," where a fic can be posted as long as a woman is a major character. That's what I want! Awesome ladies plus gender role shenanigans! Gimme!

(the two spn ladies comms I found were unsatisfactory. one did not have fic, and with the other, you couldn't post RPF and I honestly couldn't figure out of "features guys" was kosher or not)

This is like the fabulous "fic of interest" place we imagined, huh? Never to be! **sigh**

As for your serendipitous kinkmeme request, as you have previously pointed out, many of those things are anonymous. Nothing wrong with making your own serendipity.
It's too obvious! Plus, no one would read/comment anyway, because het a/o rpf is like an ugly baby; only the author could love it. *g*

I will say that it was stupendously easy to write my own. "Spike wants baby but Buffy is more reluctant. Check. Scoobs express concern. Check. Spike looks for a job to support the baby. Check."

But I think it does help explain my love for these insane crack-laden stories. It's going to get longer for me to get bored. ;P

I'd shy away from an RPF/SPN ladies comm for two reasons: a) I'd worry that it'd have whiff of feminist "y'all are ignoring the ladies and doing this fandom thing wrong, and b) I feel like it'd be harder to sell as a concept. Like, het, everyone knows what that is. I'd even throw in threesomes (as long as there's at least one woman) and alwaysagirl!Misha/Jared/Jensen/whoever, just to cast the widest possible net.

I... might be talking myself into this? Help!

I still think about our "fic of interest" comm! Although I'm pretty sure I'm going to have to just post a knotting recs post right here in my regular journal, because I want to tell people!

Don't tell me that! And also it's clearly not true. Because *I* will also love it, and probably [livejournal.com profile] ladyofthelog, and possibly [livejournal.com profile] bobthemole, and potentially other folks, too. I mean, I got comments on my Gen-Danneel knotting fics. (Several of the "I don't usually read het, but..." variety, which amused me highly.)

I think what you're saying is kinda what I meant? Except that I would be happy to add SPN characters to the het stuff. And it's not even that I dislike slash (Dean/Cas is my pairing!). It's that I want someplace to find other stuff!

That said, I will be VERY HAPPY if you make an RPF het community! DO IT!

Uh, was that what you meant by "help?"

I still think about our "fic of interest" comm! Although I'm pretty sure I'm going to have to just post a knotting recs post right here in my regular journal, because I want to tell people!
It would have been delightful! And it could have encompassed more than knotting!

Hee, that's the way it goes!

Don't tell me that!
I meant unless you write it! Because yours is fab, and I want to squish it! And also I meant to say o/o rpf, but my typing fingers ran away with my brain! **sobs**

Oh, so you're talking RPF and characters from the show itself? I had this idea there was a comm for the female characters, but it's not turning up in an LJ search now. Which comm was it that you said didn't allow RPF?

There is still [livejournal.com profile] spn_het, which seems like it mostly has that base covered already, which I is why I hadn't been thinking in that direction.

I think the distinction I was trying to draw was that I didn't want to make it a general "yay women! anything with women!" sort of a place, and in particular I didn't want to say anything about gen (as opposed to Gen *g*). RPF het is a hard enough sell as it is; I feel like explicitly throwing gen into the mix would muddy the waters, you know what i mean?

Uh, was that what you meant by "help?"

I... am not sure. :P

It would have been delightful! And it could have encompassed more than knotting!

It's not like we couldn't still do it. It kind of got lost, back there in the files of "emails Snick is supposed to answer," but still: definitely doable!
