If you were asked to pick one scene, one shot, one detail, one moment of some kind out of all the things I've written and say "This, this, for whatever reason, I remember, this is something that struck home with me, that I wanted to keep," what would it be?

Feel free to just mention bits that have stuck with you; they don't have to be your favoritest fic memories ever. :)

Something from Seraph - when Spike was insisting to Buffy that he could still handle himself in a fight and Buffy pretend-punched him in the belly just to prove to him how vulnerable he/the baby was. His reaction to that.

That moment has really stuck with me.

You're very brave to do this meme, btw. I would never dare

Ooh, yes. That bit wasn't in the original draft, but [livejournal.com profile] hello_spikey said I needed something to "punch up the tension." I, ah, took her literally. And I'm really glad I did.

No? It's a chance for people to tell you what made an impression, is all. Stoking of the writerly ego. I guess someone might tell me about that one line I wrote that they thought stunk, but we're in a nice corner of fandom, so I doubt anyone will.

I'm sure no one will, because I've never seen a line of yours that stunk.

That is very kind of you to say. It's a compliment to my betas, I think - they help me get the stinky lines out. :)

Ooh, I remember your Dawn once (possibly in a drabble?), feeling ever so slightly invisible as a shoplifter, moving between shadows. That was a great image.

Ooh, thank you. Yes, it was a drabble for the 3-sentence ficathon alst year. That was one of those cases where the image came almost by accident, in the course of writing the fic. I love it when that happens. :)

TOO HARD. TOO HARD.

But I think I'm going to go with your Oz fic. Because it was so unexpected and so raw and so beautiful and made me flail from start to finish. It's very, very rare for me that I love a fic that's about someone other than Spike, Buffy, or Dawn, but that one just grabbed my heart and hasn't let it go.

And yes, it is one of my favoritest fic memories ever!

So, this is where I point out that I have three Oz fics, plus drabbles... Which one do you mean?

Ah! Sorry! The post-apocalyptic one that randomly popped up out of nowhere.

But that little drabble from the other day was too perfect, too.

Well, yay! It is post-apocalyptic, and I know how we both feel about that. And I'm thrilled that I could get you excited about non-Spike-Dawn-Buffy, and about Oz in particular, especially since that one felt way experimental to me - I really was concerned it'd be too far off the beaten path for a lot of folks.

Thank you. :)

Hmmm I've lost track of who I've done this for and who I haven't. It would have to be something from Seraph, of course. I think maybe the whole fight scene near the end, when Spike realizes how hard everyone, including Xander, is working to save him and his baby. I loved all the friendship touches in the story, including Buffy and Spike's gradual and steady movement from enemies to friends.

Yay! I really enjoyed the gradual friendship stuff, too. Thanks for telling me. :)

It's not the most moving thing you've written ... but I think the scene in Seraph where Buffy is giving Spike a massage and calls vamps 'ooky,' and then Spike gets all defensive and lashes out ... I remember the scene because it's so them, even without romance or sex being on either of their minds.

Hah! That's really neat. What I sort of meant to do there was make fun of all the overwrought romantic language often used to describe Spike and vampires and massages and stuff. The Unbearable Sexiness of the Undead, shall we say. So if skewering that trope got me authentic Spike-and-Buffyness, that's icing on the cake.

Thanks for letting me know. :)

I'm going to pick the other Oz fic, "A Man of Many Colors", because I still remember how perfect that felt to me. I forever love how you used Oz's dying his hair to give his life structure. And how perfectly that resonates with the way Willow uses costumes. Both such abstract creatures.

I love your Oz fic so much. Your characterization of him always rings true and that seems rare to me, so I appreciate it all the more.

Thank you so much! I feel as though Oz has become sort of my signature character, just because fic about him is so much less common than for the other characters I love and write about.

Thank you for the lovely words. :)
