in which I am weird, and also colorful
Sep. 10th, 2010 12:38 amWhen I think of characters, I often associate them with colors, especially when I'm thinking about ships.
Cordelia I usually think of as pink (though not always), and Xander's yellow. Pink/yellow - okay, that works.
But sometimes Cordelia is a purplish gray, like clouds at sunset, and Oz is the golden orange around the clouds at sunset, I suspect because of his hair. I know this because I was driving towards a sunset last night and I thought to myself, "Oh, it's Cordelia and Oz." Not that I ship orange/purplish-gray, but then I don't ship Oz/Cordelia either (except possibly as BFF, because that would be fabulous).
Drusilla's lavender, with occasional infusions of crimson (which I'm pretty sure is thematic).
Buffy is usually blue.
Dawn is a pale purple and Ethan is a rich purply-browny gray. Purple/purply-browny gray is kind of an interesting combination, which may be why I'm intrigued by the idea of Dawn/Ethan.
Faith/Giles is weird - Faith is brown and Giles is brown, but when I think of them together I get brown with hints of green. It has a sort of rich, soothing effect when I think of it.
Spike is red, except when he's an ugly washed-out yellow (which I'm pretty sure comes from his hair color).
Willow by herself is green, but Willow with anyone else is a deep reddish auburn, like her hair. Red hair is notoriously hard to match colors with, which may be why I have so much trouble shipping her with anyone.
It isn't predictive, though. I very much like pink and brown together, but I am not in the least interested in Cordy/Giles. (Except, maybe later? When she's matured but before she dies? Hmm? Okay, somebody write me this.)
Harmony is pink and Clem is pink. Is this why I suddenly think Harmony/Clem is a good idea?
In case you were wondering: no, I did not just pull this out of the air. My brain actually thinks this way. Next week, how when I go clothes shopping all the colors make me think of candies.

Date: 2010-09-10 12:26 pm (UTC)If I had to pick these colors, most of mine would be very different than yours (except for Faith and Giles, interestingly enough--very, very brown. And Spike). But I adore reading this.
I know we've talked about the letters of the alphabet as colors (which I also see); you seem to have a really intense relationship with color, and I find this fascinating.
You should always share random posts about how you see the world. I like them!

(Why do I have no icon of Riley and "Don't you just want to put them in separate rooms and do experiments on them"? Why?)

Date: 2010-09-11 03:39 am (UTC)Speaking of strange pictures, I want to paint you a picture with character names now. It would be a one-person picture, enjoyable only by Snickelish. Do you think it would work?

Date: 2010-09-11 03:57 am (UTC)Aww! That could be really cool! I would totally love any custom-painted-by-Jalixx3 painting. (Speaking of custom-made, do you remember the plaid bear you made me? I can't remember what I named him then, so I've dubbed him Bernard, pronounced the British way - BER-nerd. He's sitting on my bookcase as I type.)

Date: 2010-09-11 03:35 pm (UTC)Words or characters don't do anything for me personally, but numbers definitely all have a texture/color/temperature combination that makes them either very pleasant or very unpleasant for me to think about.

Date: 2010-09-11 04:47 pm (UTC)Ooh, tell me about numbers! Is there are pattern to the pleasant vs. the unpleasant numbers? I'm very curious to know about the textures and temperatures - that's a lot more multi-sensory than I ever get!

Date: 2010-09-12 08:37 pm (UTC)0, 2, 5, 7, and, to a lesser extent, 9 are in the first group and I usually find them very pleasant. 4, 6, and 8 are in the latter group and I generally find unpleasant. 1 and 3 are pretty neutral and take on the characteristic of whatever other numbers are around them. Since there are, literally, infinitely many numbers I won't get too depth into how they combine together, but usually the ending digit has the greatest effect on the total feeling of a larger number, and then the other digits contribute equally.
I can mostly ignore it if I'm doing math or calculations or something (though I do get a little squee of joy if the answer ends up to be 72 or something awesome like that), but I notice it more when it comes to things that have a real significance like mail box numbers, Drivers licence numbers, etc.
