testing the waters
Sep. 7th, 2010 10:52 amWould it be helpful to anyone if I started cross-posting to (or from, rather, but same dif) Dreamwidth? Never fear - I would still be posting to LJ as well. But is there anyone out there for whom this would be beneficial?
My hesitation with cross-posting is that I hate the idea of splitting my blog conversations, with some folks commenting on LJ and others on DW. But closing comments on one or the other just shuts part of the conversation down entirely. I still have no answer to this problem.

I agree with you that splitting the comments is a pain. I don't think it's a big deal to direct all comments to one post - it's not that hard to click the link to comment. Barb is doing this now, I believe.
The thing is that it's much easier to direct all comments to DW than to direct them all to LJ. I think you can set up your crossposting to automatically link back to DW, but if you want the comments at LJ, you'd have to manually include a link to the LJ post and ask DW folks to please comment there.
So it's definitely easier to have all comments at DW, but if you still feel like LJ is where the primary discussion is, then having all your comments on DW might not be ideal.

It's fairly easy to keep all the comments at DW, though, because it really likes OpenID.
(I'd love to do precisely that, but I still have a lot of people who read my LJ and don't know about my DW... so I'm keeping them sort-of-separate for now.)

Date: 2010-09-08 04:26 am (UTC)I think that, for all its goodies, DW still hasn't made it worth it for me to go to the extra hassle. What with the basic split conversation problem, I'm not sure they ever will, or what it'd take.
