There's been quite the comics-related to-do on my flist lately. It kind of makes me tired. (It's a darn good thing I wasn't around when the show was running; I'd have stumbled away from fandom, whimpering, in the middle of S6 and never recovered.)

Regarding latest developments, seeing as how this is the crack writing team that brought us Dawn the Centaur and Buffy the Bank Robber and The Submarine that Went to Tibet, I should hardly be surprised that ******* has been looking for ways to kill ******* or that ******* is doing the mid-air sex thing with ******* (and here that's what I thought wingfic was for!). And since I can't really see centaur!Dawn ever being part of my personal canon, I probably shouldn't care about this latter stuff, either.

OTOH, it has resulted in some way cool Buffy is My (Penguin) Hero responses, quinara's action-packed fic Gone Fishin' and ladyofthelog's fantabulous bit of penguin!Buffy art (spoilers for the comics). Which is way more fun than foaming at the mouth in rage, eh?

Giles has been looking for a way to kill Buffy, just in case her progressive powerups throughout the season (she can fly now!) cause her to go off the rails. It's why he and Faith went haring all over Europe by themselves.

Meanwhile, Buffy and Angel (who, it turns out, is the season villain Twilight [and how unfortunate a name is that? Too bad none of the writers had their ears to the YA lit market when the comics started]) have literally world-shattering mid-air sex. 'Cuz with the mutual flying abilities, and all. Apparently in the ish that just came out today this is depicted for several pages in NSFW detail.

It's all to do with repercussions of the Slayer spell in Chosen and Angel trying to save the world for its own good (and killing hundreds of Slayers in the process) and some prophecy of the Watcher's Council and sex under compulsion by a mystical glow. And... yeah.

There aren't really words, not that that's stopped people.

It's the worst kind of crack: it makes no sense, it isn't funny, and all the characterizations are haywire.

I am loving the fact that my fandom's response to general badness is suddenly defaulting to "penguin AUs"!

It's such a cracky, and wonderful, way of looking at the world.

You most definitely would. It was insane! I haven't really been following the comics furore, but it is a tiny storm in a teacup in comparison.

Speaking of teacups Giles drinks tea and says "comics, what comics" *g*.

Yep yep! (I feel a little bad that I haven't contributed to the penguiny goodness lately. For whatever reason, the penguin muse hasn't visited. At least lots of other folks are writing cool thing.)

You're most welcome! I think this font of penguin silliness is exactly what our corner of fandom needed. I'm just glad I got in on it from the beginning - it'd be a bit of a struggle to jump in now and follow the roots back...

On one hand, it might be too soon - who knows where it'll go from here? But on the other hand, it'd probably be easier to sort out now than later. And deird1's been collecting all penguin links in her memories.

But yeah, I don't have the drive either. Too much RL going on around here.
