I keep saying this, but:

I think I finally have an in to the Giles fic. There is no Ripper in it, alas. Nor is it all from Dawn's POV, which was my next idea. But I now have 200 words and it looks like the next 300+ will come fairly easily, so yay.

Meanwhile, I've been having fun today updating my icons, and I think it's time for another round of this meme: Choose one of my icons (by keyword) and I'll tell you something about it. Or probably several somethings. In fact, I'll probably natter on a bit, because it turns out I'm a little obsessed with shiny graphics in small sizes.

I love my icons, too. *g* Browsing for new ones has turned out to be a cheap and pleasurable form of stress relief.

This icon actually has a story behind it. I'm always on the lookout for Spike&Dawn icons, because as may be evident by poking around my icons, Spike&Dawn friendship is my favorite ship of any kind in the whole fandom. A while back one of my favorite iconmakers, [livejournal.com profile] ruuger, put up an icon offer, and I said, "Ooh! Spike&Dawn, please!" So she made me some lovely textless icons, and then [livejournal.com profile] angeria suggested the text.

And I love it because their relationship is a sibling one so much of the time - her the irritating younger sister, him the black sheep older brother she idolizes. Plus the idea of Spike in a Big Brother program is just highly amusing.

A-a-and this one. I like each of my icons to have a purpose, or else I never use them. So I saw this one by [livejournal.com profile] miss_atom and loved it because it's just so Anya, but almost passed it by until I realized it was the best congratulations icon ever. Now I can be truly honest every time a friend on my flist wins an award or finishes a fic or whatever, and I can get away with it. *g*

The Giles music fic is the one I mention above - I'm still in the process! It looks like the music will have less of a presence than I thought, but I still appreciate all the help. :)

Riley cowboy icon commentary, please!

I will say that my two favorite of your icons are the green destiny Buffy one, and the Faith & Buffy 'Chosen Two'.

It's Riley in a cowboy hat and a big doofish grin. What more's to be said? *g*

First, "Restless" is one of my top 5 Buffy eps, and it's also wonderfully rich in visual interest, and so between those two things I have a ton of icons of it. (In fact, I now have a special folder on my HD just for them.) And second, I love both Riley's appearances in the ep. Love 'em. I'm undecided as to what exactly they're saying about him as a character, but I think I'd summarize it thusly: peace, justice, guns, and the American Way, with not a little amused poking at same. White hats. Beat the bad guy. Take charge. Try to save the little lady. When all else fails, build a pillow fort. (Okay, that one might be too literal an interpretation.)

Ooh, and this particular icon is by [livejournal.com profile] iconweenience, whom I'm not too familiar with yet but like very much. The framing is cool and I love the bit of diagonal text. Plus, c'mon, he kind of just adorable here.

You have excellent taste! The green destiny one is by [livejournal.com profile] visualthinker and the Chosen Two one is by [livejournal.com profile] orangelusik, and they're two of my very favorite iconmakers. :)

I love your thoughts on the Riley icon. I LOVE RILEY IN RESTLESS. And you know I don't care about Riley at all, so that's saying something. If only Joss could have used him so magnificently in all of his episodes! Cowboy Riley is the most perfect thing ever!

This one's actually brand-new - just uploaded yesterday! It's by the always-fabulous [livejournal.com profile] xlivvielockex. As usual with her stuff, it has just gorgeous color and framing. Primarily, though, I just really like the image of Darla and the scales, Darla and justice. My old Darla icon was of her all dolled up and gorgeous in period splendor, but the most interesting parts of her story - that we see, anyway - happen in the modern day. In particular, Darla as human again is an idea that I don't think the show explored nearly enough. It was way more interesting Angel and his poor baby existential angst. (Although as Angel ships go, Angel/Darla is by far my favorite, and probably the only one I'd ever go looking for.)

Hee! I agree with all of that! I would've LOVED more Angel/Darla - with her as human or vampire, but especially seeing them together as parents would've been way more fun than the Holtz/kidnapping plot. (And this from the girl who hates babyfic, lol.)

I need a Darla icon. But I am soooo out of space. *needs moar tiny pictures*

Ooh! That's another brand-spankin' new one that I just uploaded yesterday. It's by [livejournal.com profile] red_sunflower, whom I've just discovered. (I know, I know; sometimes these things take me a while.) I usually don't go in for monochromes or weird colorings, but she's done some lovely ones.

"Spike now" is actually as much a theme as a description; it's kind of my "Spike becoming a vampire" phrase originally tied to a previous icon, which I used for general discussions of Spike, his arc, etc. (You remember how I'm obsessive about tagging? I'm the same with icons. They almost all have a purpose in my head, and many are code for something else.)

Besides, it's just gorgeous. I love the framing. It's such an iconic (heh) shot, with the silhouettes so identifiable and in such contrast that it's hugely effective as an icon despite the long distance and how small the figures are.

Oh whoops! Can I ask about Flutie? I think that's the first icon I've ever seen of the dear departed principal.

From: [personal profile] snickfic
As opposed to the other departed principal, hmm? *g*

I just rewatched S1 with the housemate a little while ago and realized just how much I love Flutie. I think he's emblematic of the See No Evil, Hear No Evil mentality of Sunnydale, which isn't explictly pointed up in the show until when, sometime S7? But he's also a send-up of a certain warm fuzzy stereotype in education - he's concerned about making Buffy feel at home, but then pieces her record back together; he's so concerned about everyone's trauma related to some death or other that he makes everyone go to counseling whether they need it or not... At bottom, though, he was just a really sweet, well-meaning guy, and there weren't really so very many of those on the show.

Er, and yet none of that was about the icon. *chagrin* Okay. It's by [livejournal.com profile] kathyh, who did a 12 Days of Christmas icon series a couple years back where every day had a different theme. The third day was principals. (There's lots of other cool themes, too.) And you're right, it's the only icon of Flutie I've ever seen. I actually uploaded it specifically for a conversation with someone a couple weeks ago, and then figured I'd keep it.
