Giles (finally) and icon memeage
Mar. 27th, 2010 09:26 pmI keep saying this, but:
I think I finally have an in to the Giles fic. There is no Ripper in it, alas. Nor is it all from Dawn's POV, which was my next idea. But I now have 200 words and it looks like the next 300+ will come fairly easily, so yay.
Meanwhile, I've been having fun today updating my icons, and I think it's time for another round of this meme: Choose one of my icons (by keyword) and I'll tell you something about it. Or probably several somethings. In fact, I'll probably natter on a bit, because it turns out I'm a little obsessed with shiny graphics in small sizes.

Date: 2010-03-28 03:46 am (UTC)This icon actually has a story behind it. I'm always on the lookout for Spike&Dawn icons, because as may be evident by poking around my icons, Spike&Dawn friendship is my favorite ship of any kind in the whole fandom. A while back one of my favorite iconmakers,
And I love it because their relationship is a sibling one so much of the time - her the irritating younger sister, him the black sheep older brother she idolizes. Plus the idea of Spike in a Big Brother program is just highly amusing.

Date: 2010-03-28 03:50 am (UTC)The Giles music fic is the one I mention above - I'm still in the process! It looks like the music will have less of a presence than I thought, but I still appreciate all the help. :)

Date: 2010-03-28 06:32 am (UTC)I will say that my two favorite of your icons are the green destiny Buffy one, and the Faith & Buffy 'Chosen Two'.

Date: 2010-03-28 02:21 pm (UTC)First, "Restless" is one of my top 5 Buffy eps, and it's also wonderfully rich in visual interest, and so between those two things I have a ton of icons of it. (In fact, I now have a special folder on my HD just for them.) And second, I love both Riley's appearances in the ep. Love 'em. I'm undecided as to what exactly they're saying about him as a character, but I think I'd summarize it thusly: peace, justice, guns, and the American Way, with not a little amused poking at same. White hats. Beat the bad guy. Take charge. Try to save the little lady. When all else fails, build a pillow fort. (Okay, that one might be too literal an interpretation.)
Ooh, and this particular icon is by
You have excellent taste! The green destiny one is by

Date: 2010-03-28 06:32 pm (UTC)Hee! I agree with all of that! I would've LOVED more Angel/Darla - with her as human or vampire, but especially seeing them together as parents would've been way more fun than the Holtz/kidnapping plot. (And this from the girl who hates babyfic, lol.)
I need a Darla icon. But I am soooo out of space. *needs moar tiny pictures*

Date: 2010-03-28 09:24 pm (UTC)"Spike now" is actually as much a theme as a description; it's kind of my "Spike becoming a vampire" phrase originally tied to a previous icon, which I used for general discussions of Spike, his arc, etc. (You remember how I'm obsessive about tagging? I'm the same with icons. They almost all have a purpose in my head, and many are code for something else.)
Besides, it's just gorgeous. I love the framing. It's such an iconic (heh) shot, with the silhouettes so identifiable and in such contrast that it's hugely effective as an icon despite the long distance and how small the figures are.

Date: 2010-03-28 10:00 pm (UTC)I just rewatched S1 with the housemate a little while ago and realized just how much I love Flutie. I think he's emblematic of the See No Evil, Hear No Evil mentality of Sunnydale, which isn't explictly pointed up in the show until when, sometime S7? But he's also a send-up of a certain warm fuzzy stereotype in education - he's concerned about making Buffy feel at home, but then pieces her record back together; he's so concerned about everyone's trauma related to some death or other that he makes everyone go to counseling whether they need it or not... At bottom, though, he was just a really sweet, well-meaning guy, and there weren't really so very many of those on the show.
Er, and yet none of that was about the icon. *chagrin* Okay. It's by
