I wrote 75,000 words this year. I finished and posted my first longfic. I got to know a ton of new people. I read some wonderful fic (for which I direct you to my recs posts.

But most importantly, I crawled out of my shell and got to know people. One of my fannish goals last year was to "socialize a bit more." Check. This time last year I was still a shy little noob who stuck her head out and dared to comment on a post every now then. Now I feel like part of the conversation, and I've met a whole bunch of nice, thoughtful, and interesting folks.

So, yay fandom! Yay all of you!

Other goals included finishing and posting 'the crackfic' (that would be Seraph - hurrah!), doing Yuletide again (check), and participating in one or two other ficathons (just Remix, but I eyed the Plot Without Porn and Darla ficathons longingly).

Opinions that've changed in the past year: Writing Seraph, I learned to stop worrying and love S4 in all its hokey, fluffy, angst-free glory. I also understand and like Buffy-the-character a lot more than I did this time last year. And Restless has gone from "Well, that was audacious. And pretentious," to being one of my top five favorite episodes of the series.

Fannish surprises: Faith/Giles. Never even thought of them before, and then No Future For You slapped me in the face with this fabulous new ship. Now I can't get enough.

Goals for this year: Write the Buffy/Giles piece that's been bugging me for months. Write some Faith/Giles, even if it's just a drabble. Otherwise, I want to get back in the rhythm of my original fic writing. I pretty much took last year off to work on Seraph, and I'd like to write a bunch of new material for submission purposes.

Looking back, did you write more fics than you thought you would this year, fewer than you thought, or about what you predicted?

Probably more, both in number and wordcount. Number because I started writing drabbles this year - nice of 'em, to be exact. Wordcount because at this time last year I still had no idea how long Seraph was going to be.

What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January 2009?

Larry/Jonathan (and it's all [livejournal.com profile] gabrielleabelle's fault!).

What's your favourite story this year? Not the most popular, but the one that makes you the happiest?

We-e-ell, I am unreasonably fond of both Recipe and Toppings, which are both Dawn-is-the-key stories. But really, there's only one answer: Seraph.

Okay, NOW your most popular story.

It's a bit hard to compare the popularity of multi-parters and one-shots, but I think I'd have to go with Seraph, again. (Actually, let's just assume that Seraph is the answer to most of these questions, because otherwise I won't mention anything else I wrote, and I'm planning to talk a bunch about Seraph in a later post, anyway.)

For the largest number of views in a small time frame, though, it's probably the Matilda fic, Three Christmases with Miss Honey, which is slight Christmassy fluff but seems to have hit the Yuletide sweet spot.

Story most under appreciated by the universe?

I suppose Abandon Hope (the Mary Quite Contrary remix), the ridiculously dense Drusilla character study drabble series thingy. Then again, it's about the least accessible fic I've ever written, so maybe it's been appreciated exactly as much as it deserves.

Story that could have been better?

Remember how Seraph is the answer to everything? Yes.

Otherwise, probably Three Christmases with Miss Honey. I'm glad folks like it, but it doesn't feel nearly substantive enough for me. If I'd been running on more than nerves and deadline by the time I got the chance to write it, there probably would have been five Christmases instead of three. And also a less lame title.

I'm still not really satisfied with the remix story, but even now I can't figure out how I could have fixed it, so I am sanguine about that one.

Sexiest story?

I think it'll have to be And Didn't Know It, which I believe is the only fic this year with actual kissing in it.

Most fun story?

To write: Remember that answer to everything?

To read: I think Recipe is pretty darn funny. But that might just be me.

Story with single sweetest moment?

And Didn't Know It, I suppose.

(Here's a secret: the plot of Seraph is just the scaffolding to hang all the character development and sweet moments on.)

Hardest story to write?

The remix fic, again. That was pulling teeth, y'all. I spent an entire weekend sweating over shooting scripts and S2 scene snippets and writing worthless notes and begging Dru to say something linear enough that it would make any sense to anyone but me and her.

Easiest story to write?

Some of the drabbles got a first draft in a half hour or so. And Genuine Old British Guy tea took about forty minutes from start to finish, as it was commentfic for a sick friend. (Which also explains its slight and fluffy nature.)

Heh. You know, I had an idea that that comment would get your attention. *g*

Happy New Year to you, too! We should, like, actually email sometime. I'm terribly curious about this new life philosophy you're developing...
