SPN: Provenance and Dead Man's Blood
Mar. 20th, 2011 10:58 pmBSG has been dragging so badly lately that tonight I showed the roommate some Supernatural instead. We started with Hell House, for the fun, Something Wicked because she was still up for more, and Dead Man's Blood (which I hadn't seen yet).
She enjoyed it. In fact, she pronounced it "better than Buffy."
There may have been some accusations of blasphemy at that point.
She prefers it because the tone is more serious and because she says the characters have more depth. I argued the good cause for a few minutes, but at the end of the day I was just tickled she wanted to watch more SPN with me, and after all, she did watch basically all of BtVS on my say-so. I think I'll keep her. *g*
Something Wicked (again)
A Something Wicked rewatch note: really nice scoring on this ep. I liked the whimsy of it.
Provenance
I'm opposed to casual sex on principle, and aside from that, Dean egging Sam on about getting laid has an unsavory whiff of boys' locker room about it. Yet he's so clearly genuinely concerned about Sam that I have trouble holding it against him. The brotherly concern for Sam and Sam's grief over Jess was awfully sweet and kind of adorable.
And I actually sort of liked Sarah Blake. She and Sam had a whole lot more chemistry than Dean and the Cassie girl did.
As for the evil painting, I was a little disappointed. I feel like the whole plot could have been cooler than it was. However, I did have an idea the father in the painting was looking at the daughter for a reason. Yay me.
Eh. Definitely the minor episode of the disk.
Dead Man's Blood
In which there is Plot Development and we learn that gun manufacturers of the old west had mystical powers. Given the American backcountry roots of the show so far, that actually seems appropriate. I kind of like it. An mystically enhanced gun certainly matches the flavor of the show.
Also the show agrees with me that Sam and Dean are assets to John, not liabilities. (You were all giggling at me behind your keyboards last week, weren't you?) And Dean stands up to John, yay Dean!
I'm still not a John fan, you guys. I see how he's become what he's become, but that doesn't mean I like it. I'm totally on Sam's side on this one.
In fact, I seem to be warming up to Sam in general. I think it's just that I've seen more of him, and particularly I've watched him deal with civilians, which is one of his strengths. He's a very compassionate person and openly so, and I appreciate that. Also, in terms of caution vs. recklessness, I definitely come down on the Sam side of things.
Can't say I cared about the vampires one way or the other. There was some unfortunate acting, especially from the main female vampire. Meh.
