Finally, a Cylon-centric ep! Perhaps we will learn cool!science-fictional!stuff!
I don't understand this Cylon society at all. Or the Cylon plan. Or their biology. Or their religion, which only the Six models ever talk about. She's very boring about it, too. If I were to write a caricature of monotheist, she'd sound like Six. Blah.
How much do I love the identity crisis girl bonding between Six and Eight? I love it very much. MOAR PLZ.
How much do I love that Six has a Gaius in her head? I LOVE THAT, TOO. Symmetry! Gaius psychoanalyzing Six just as much she does him! I have no idea why there would be this symmetry, and I will be fairly ticked if we don't ever get even a handwavy suggestion for what it's all about, but for now I love it love it.
Surprisingly I find Galactica!Boomer/Tyrol's Sharon/Eight a lot more bearable now that she's actually trying to deal with her problems and not just sitting around wibbling.
I also find that this flesh-and-blood Six is a lot more sympathetic than I would have expected given what I remember from the series premiere. I'm not sure how I feel about that.
Lay Down Your Burdens
So let's get this out of the way: as a piece of storytelling, this finale stunk. There was all sorts of interesting plot stuff going on, but structurally it peaked with the election results and then wandered around for another half-hour, included a 12-month time lapse. I felt like I was at the theater again watching Return of the King: Is it over yet? Was that the ending? Okay, no, here's the ending. Nope, this is the ending. No...
I'm intrigued by the events shown after the time lapse, but I also feel like I've got a case of Season 8 going on, with characters in new situations that in no way seem to follow from what I know of them. Gaius as a drunken layabout president I have no trouble seeing, but Kara married? Tyrol apparently with Callie? (I'm a little squicked by that one, honestly.) ADAMA WITH A MUSTACHE?
A quote that made me snerk:
Bwah hah hah! Fair question, Tyrol.
I CALLED THIS ONE PEOPLE. About the time Priest Guy started asking Tyrol about his dreams, I turned to the roommate and I said, "He's a Cylon." Roommate can attest. I haven't accused anyone of being a Cylon since Ellen Tigh showed up (about whom the jury's still out), but I CALLED THIS ONE. *dances dance of triumph*
I heart Tyrol, by the way. He's one of those relatively unsung heroes that I always have a soft spot for. He stays in the trenches and he does his job. None of these muckety politics for him.
There was almost no Lee in these episodes. Yay that.
There were some very nice Laura-and-Bill scenes. Yay those. I especially loved the one before the presidential debate - the sarcasm and the teasing and the giggling.
I still don't get the Kara/Sam thing, but it seems to be mutual, so fine. I like her and he doesn't bother me, so we'll go with it. I'm still surprised at the married part, though.
Sam says Kara told him the Cylons remember their death experiences when they reincarnate. Except she hadn't had that conversation with Sharon until way after they'd left Sam on Caprica. Oops, writers.
Generally, these were much more interesting than the last couple of batches. Plot! Cylons! Character development! Can't wait to start S3 tomorrow.

Priest Guy: Do you know how useless prayer is? Chanting, and singing, and mucking about with old half-remembered lines of bad poetry? And you know what it gets you? Exactly nothing.
Tyrol: Are you sure you're a priest?
Bwah hah hah! Fair question, Tyrol.
