Agent Carter 1.01-2
Jan. 8th, 2015 06:47 pmI liked it a lot! It's really hard to go wrong with period lady badassery. I LOVED the radio drama woven through the second episode (and seeing the sound effects made was neat, too).
A few familiar faces - I am all *hearts in eyes* over seeing Enver whatsisface again, and am very pleased that he's a good guy. (Am I hopeful for eventual smooches and them rescuing each other from things? Yes. Yes I am.) And then LELAND PALMER showed up, and he is now the president of Roxxon. I guess we're poaching all the really recognizable Twin Peaks people these days, aren't we?
Does Jarvis bear a weird resemblance to Benedict Cumberbatch, or is that just me?
I want more female friendship. Was sad we lost Colleen, but am delighted we've moved in next door to the waitress. Also, I want to rent an apartment in a house for decent young woman. It would solve so many housing issues.
Speaking of women, is Peggy what people mean when they talk about weaponized femininity, or am I taking that too literally, what with the knockout lipstick and all?

I didn't catch that, but I totally see what you mean!

Date: 2015-01-09 03:45 am (UTC)I'm a pretty big geek for OTR, and I love, love, love the radio-show as a framing device, too. I always seem to come out of MCU things wanting fic about super-minor background characters (megafandoms: doing them wrong, always!), and I kind of want to read about the foley guy and the voice actors being unexpectedly sucked into spy shenanigans.
I'm so very happy that we're being given Peggy as someone who likes and values her connections with other women. It would have been easy for them, I think, to just make her patently Not Like Those Other Girls and focus on the g-men and the action plot.

I thought too! I was quite confused for a moment.

I loooooooved these episodes. I am so excited.
is Peggy what people mean when they talk about weaponized femininity,
Imo, yes. Because even without the knockout lipstick, she used her wiles to get in there. But what I find really interesting about this was that it was just one thing she did. She can use wiles, she can also appear like the unobtrusive secretary, but she can also sneak around, and she can use advanced gadgetry, AND SHE PUNCHES PEOPLE IN THE FACE. So like, sometimes I get annoyed at "weaponized femininity" because it still feels exploitative, as if the only weapon women have is their femalehood. But what I loved was that it was there--they didn't ignore that this is a power she has--but she also punched people in the face.
And someone on tumblr pointed out that the way Peggy punches people isn't elegant. She doesn't move like a dancer, the way that Natasha and Melinda May does. She seriously just bulldozes through people and I just love it so much.
And then she has all this I HURT PEOPLE angst which is seriously a kink for me. This show, guh.
Also. Hey you. I feel like we haven't talked in forever; are you up for hanging out? y/y? What are you doing next week can I come over? y/y?

Date: 2015-01-10 11:31 am (UTC)IKR? I already have all these ideas for how the Buffyverse and the Lynchverse match up, I guess now the MCU fits in there somewhere too...
And yes, let's please have this be a springboard to greater things for Enver Gjokaj. After Dollhouse I've kept waiting for his career to take off.
