SPN 8.10: Torn and Frayed

snick_backupI find myself resoundingly meh about this ep.
* I am upset that the note they ended the Sam/Amelia storyline on was Amelia deliberately cheating on Don and feeling bad about it. Like, at least complicate it up, show. The hallmark of Amelia's relationship with Sam and then with Don the Returned is that it was complicated, and now we've jumped straight to, "I'll go against everything I believe in to be with you"?
* I'm glad, however, that there was no Sam/Amelia running-to-meet-the-deadline business or anything of that nature. I would have been really extremely annoyed about that.
* Surprising music choices this go-round. Their mid-season recap music is getting weirder and weirder, and then when we were sneaking around the warehouse it was all eerie and atmospheric.
* Watching Samandriel getting tortured was a bit wearying. Also, I'm still miffed that for some reason when male-shaped people get tortured, they get to wear all their clothes.
* favorite line: "the amount of pain an angel must be in in order to manifest through shrubbery". IT'S A NEW UNIT OF MEASUREMENT. IT NEEDS A NAME. WE COULD CALL IT AN AMBUSH. "Up to 0.8 ambushes of pain may be required before an angel will begin speaking in Enochian." AND SO ON.
* second favorite line: "I must ask you to, as you say, 'stow your crap.'"
I know lots of big stuff happened in this ep, and I am reserving judgment on most of it. Um, I liked that Dean at the end of the ep seemed to have gained a bit of perspective. OTOH, him cutting things off with Benny seemed a bit abrupt. I think some Sam-and-Dean negotiation might have been helpful there.
In summary: at least they're talking.

Definitely needed more Sam and Dean negotiation. And does Sam even know that Dean cut things off with Benny? I'm guessing nope.
