Dec. 14th, 2012 07:12 am* I suddenly feel I need an icon with a picture of a steaming mug of something, with the caption "Can't you see this tea belongs with me."
* I haven't really mentioned it around here, but
gryfndor_godess is coming to visit me! Right after Christmas!!!!! There will be SPN (because she seriously planned this cross-country venture so we could watch LOTS OF TV together) and maybe the VMars pilot and possibly Ten Inch Hero if we have time and maybe also some touristing and stuff. \o/ \o/ \o/ (This means I have to, like, clean things. /o\)
* Am reading China Mieville's Railsea. Have been reading it for over a month, actually. I enjoy the worldbuilding - even though I fundamentally don't buy it, which isn't a problem I've ever had with him before - but have to read it peeking through my fingers, worried for what scrape that our naive, hapless protagonist is going to get himself into next.
* Due to an inability to deal with suspense right now, I have yet to watch the last two episodes of Leverage S1, which I gather have moderately higher stakes than usual. They're sitting there, waiting for me.
* Posts I want to write: a Hogfather miniseries post, that end-of-the-year TV meme, my annual writing roundup, and possibly a more general post of "this is what happened this year" (because off the top of my head, I don't really remember). Also I owe
spnroundtable a recs post. Perhaps I shall finish reading the things I wanted to read from
spn_reversebang and then draw recs from that.
* I think I am mostly bored of Tumblr. I only need to see so many graphics and gif sets, even of my beloved SPN ladies. (If anyone has any fannish blogs they like, either SPN-specific or more multi-fandom, that have a broader range of content than "Pretty pictures yay!", I welcome suggestions.)
* I want an SPN/SPN RPF "tropey ladies" fest for het and gen and femslash, where there's lots of arranged marriages and running away from mad scientists and AMTDI plots that hinge on hijacking the spaceship afterwards. Or multi-fandom would be fine! There was a fair bit of it back in Spuffydom, and I miss it. (Admittedly, most of it in Spuffydom was very bad). I'm reading through the plot summaries for the
deancas_xmas, and it's not like I don't read D/C when I'm bored, but I want these silly tropey plots with women. (And also, ideally, without awful awful genderfail. Also I want a pony.)

Date: 2012-12-14 04:43 pm (UTC)I will make you this, if you want it. :D I am always so amused by that icon because that's a line from a Taylor Swift song and if anyone DOESN'T belong with a Taylor Swift song it's Spuffy and yet the icon is delightful.
OMG HOW EXCITING! You two will have so much fun! I'm still wanting to come out to see you, too (though maybe not this next year because my family's Vienna plans for next fall, but maybe?) and I think while I'm on the West Coast I might as well just visit a bunch of people. :D
Let me know if you recommend Railsea after you finish it. :D

I hear you. I want these things in my fandoms, too. *pouts*

Date: 2012-12-14 04:55 pm (UTC)YES COME SEE ME. ANYTIME. Regarding West Coast activities, there has been ~discussion of a meet-up in California next year involving me and Verity and other people located in that general region. Also completely unrelated discussion about SDCC, although I haven't really been in on that conversation.
I think Railsea will probably not break into my top 3 for Mieville (which remains The Scar, The City and the City, and Perdido Street Station, in that order), but if you want the really gonzo worldbuilding without the ickier aspects of the Bas-Lag series, Railsea might be a good place to start.

Date: 2012-12-14 05:05 pm (UTC)It's not that great of a song. There are a few Taylor Swift songs I actually really like, but that's not one of them. It's very silly.
I would love to! And if California meetup happens...that might be the perfect time to do it!
Confession: I still have not made it through any of Mieville except King Rat or Rat King or whatever it was called (which had a lot of ick, but was easy to read). He's very...dense, I guess? And I haven't been in a good place for that. So maybe I'll try Railsea just to see.

Date: 2012-12-14 04:53 pm (UTC)And also, I like this spn/rpf het trope fest idea! Although I'm not sure how good I'd be at writing for it, haha. SPN ladies are so deeply in canon for me, I have trouble with AUs.

I know what you mean. I was definitely that way (for everyone, not just the ladies) back in Buffydom; even the crack had to relate to canon. Now that I'm in SPN, though, between the D/C AUs and all the silly J2 I've read, I have a hankering for an AU culture like it that's more lady-centric.

Ooh, I want one too! Or really any kind of lady-centric fest would be wonderful. Maybe even an Awesome Ladies Big Bang so I can actually participate and make art for it. I still need to finish
I have a book on my Christmas list that might be of interest to you: Fandom at the Crossroads is all about the Supernatural fandom and its relationship with the show's creators. After that "TVD Stars Read Fanfiction" video leaked yesterday, the relationship between the fans and the creators has become my #1 research idea.
Oh, and I may have found a source for interesting loose-leaf teas. It was on your Christmas list.

Date: 2013-01-01 12:24 am (UTC)I feel like there have Ladies Big Bangs before. Like, I read this really awesome Zoe Saltana genfic that was written for one, I believe. I don't think I've heard of one recently, though.
Oh, I've heard of that book! I'm waiting to hear reviews before I decide whether I want to plunk down money for it.
Ooh, tea! :D

Date: 2012-12-15 02:35 am (UTC)I've been meaning to ask, when I post about this (in an f'locked post), do you mind if I say I'm going to S------, or do you want me to keep it to a generic west coast?
