Recs Post #13
Nov. 15th, 2010 03:24 pmShort short character study pieces here, some longer shippy angst, and something very silly.

A brief, chilling, sympathetic, entirely believable character study of Willow post-series. Not to be missed.

Another of Emmie's forays into Faith/Giles, this is the first one with explicitly shippy action in it, as well as a tour through Faith's head that'll just break your heart. A lovely piece.

Absolutely gorgeous Spuffy suggestion of how things might have turned out post-S7 if Spike hadn't burned to death in "Chosen," but also very clever in subverting certain standard fannish expectations. Just excellently written. SEVERE ANGST WARNING.

Lauren wrote happy fluffy established-relationship Spuffy mpreg! Awww. With possibility of more! I may be a wee bit biased about this one, folks. But: characterization is sympathetic yet clear-eyed, as usual with Lauren, and explicit mpreg details are few, for those of you who shy away from such. This is in the same fic universe as Infinitas Infinitio Infinitus, which is also lovely, but you can read this just fine without reading that.

And now for the very silly. One morning in S7, Dawn discoversbeer bear in the fridge (good thing Spike wasn't living with them yet, eh?). It gets worse from there. Sort of a Jasper Fforde crossover, if you squint.

Date: 2010-11-15 11:45 pm (UTC)And hey, it's quite the array of fic! Dark Willow character study, Faith/Giles first person Faith pov, Spuffy mpreg (that's not super squicky!), Spuffy twisty goodness, and Beer Good's classic punnage humor

Date: 2010-11-15 11:51 pm (UTC)I've gotten lazy in my reading habits. I tried going far afield a while ago and had a disastrous time finding anything good. So I like sticking with the authors I know, who'll deliver what I like.

Date: 2010-11-16 12:04 am (UTC)But yes, I understand. I get an instant happy from getting a book. Even if it's not a good book, it's a book and thus it is good. Libraries and bookstores are places I go to recapture that sense of wonder.
So me and libraries! I grew up in Minnesota and maybe it's the weather and the neverending winter when you're constantly stuck indoors, but it's a highly literate state and this is reflected in its libraries. Libraries are like churches and cathedrals in MN. Even the local tiny libraries are lovely. So my dad and I would always be going to the library and I could get lost in there for hours (he could, too). And every library has a few acres of land attached so my dad would take my dog, Molly, to walk while I'd get to searching for the perfect book. ♥
Libraries are my happy places.
