*facepalm*
Oct. 5th, 2010 09:35 pmI'm a dope. You know The Replacement? Suave!Xander vs. Clumsy!Xander, two sides of the same coin, kill one and you kill the other?
Soooo much foreshadowing of Ben/Glory.
(But I still wish the ep had been about Buffy instead. How fabulous would it have been if we'd seen Slayer-Buffy and Buffy-Buffy, instead of just hypothesizing about them? Huh? Huh?)

Someone should write a fic that's not just an excuse to have Spike in a threeway with two Buffys... AHEM.

Date: 2010-10-06 04:41 am (UTC)I still say suave vs. clumsy is a weird split, though. Surely there are more interesting/important coins to look at two sides of.
I'm sure it says something about me that in all the times I've thought about this idea, a threeway never even crossed my mind...

Date: 2010-10-06 04:46 am (UTC)YES to it being cool to have Buffy split. Why, Joss? You know you wanted to do it!
I think with Xander it came to splitting him apart based on his weaknesses and Xander's weakness is his insecurity so confident/insecure makes sense. It's perhaps telling how Confident Xander is less snappish when talking with others while Insecure Xander seems to lash out more. Hmm. I might have to rewatch this episode now considering all the recent Xander discussion.
Oh, great. Just great. Now I'm thinking about Xander. This is all fandom's fault. And you.

Date: 2010-10-06 07:48 pm (UTC)(Is it not fabulous? I stole it from Sherlock fandom - it was a line in a fic, and it got iconned. I predict it will be very useful. *g* And also, your icon is made of win! It took me a couple times to realize what it actually pictured...)
I think the basic concept of some nice line of division between the two halves of a person's self is silly - we are not one-dimensional! We have many, many dimensions, and even many insecurities; expecting to find one nice convenient way to split is overly simplistic, seems to me.
With Buffy, at least, you've got the supernatural Slayer part and the regular human girl part, but even there you'd expect overlap - are Buffy's fight skills all Slayer, or are they part of Buffy, too? Part of what the first four seasons are about - especially Restless - is how Buffy synthesizes those two halves. Splitting them apart would be a bit messy, it seems to me.
