Date: 2009-11-04 11:25 pm (UTC)And I'm already slightly terrified of what I've signed up for. But I assume that's totally normal yuletidiness...

Date: 2009-11-04 11:27 pm (UTC)I don't have time to sign up tonight - I'll probably wait until the weekend. Despite having been planning my requests since last December, they still need a little tweaking... *g*

Date: 2009-11-06 12:44 am (UTC)I love Wallace and Grommit! I don't have the skills to write them, but I'll be very pleased to read it if someone writes it for you.
I have no idea what that other fandom you mentioned is. ;) But I'm sure it's cool, as you are cool.
Question: the part where you fill out the "other" and you can prompt. Is it okay to list like three or four different vague prompts? Or do you only have to choose one?

Date: 2009-11-06 01:29 am (UTC)I know what you mean about the skillz. I have no idea how one would go about writing fanfic for W&G, and I'm going to say as much in my "Dear Yuletide" letter. I plan to encourage funky narrative structures. :)
SeaQuest was the TV show of my youth, my very first TV love. It's basically Star Trek: TNG but in the near future and on an Enterprise-size submarine. It's not that great, actually, but in my case it has a huge nostalgia factor going for it, and there are a few characters I still like quite a bit (even though in most cases they aren't the ones I liked the first time around).
You can prompt however you like. They range from extremely detailed to, yanno, not. (One 'memorable' prompt I noticed last year was for Anne McCaffrey's Pern universe. The characters were "Any" and the prompt was, "slash." Because yah, as long as you've got the boy-on-boy action, who cares about fiddly details like rating or tone or which boys they are. *rolls eyes*) Keep in mind, you don't have to put everything ever in the prompt field - many people also write "Dear Yuletide Santa" letters that go into more detail about what they like about the characters and the fandom, what their squicks are, etc. You can then link to the letter when you sign up. Like, here's my "Dear Santa" letter from last year, with the requests in italics.
Things are pretty flexible, really. And it might help to know that according to the rules, the 'prompt' is technically optional for the author. Most authors try to accomodate them, but they don't have to.
So, short answer: three or four vague prompts is just fine. :)

Date: 2009-11-06 01:43 am (UTC)Aw! That's cute! Yay for nostalgia!
Because yah, as long as you've got the boy-on-boy action, who cares about fiddly details like rating or tone or which boys they are. *rolls eyes* I know that there are thoughtful slash fans who use the genre to, say, examine gender stereotypes and such, but when I think of slash fans, I have to say that it's those sorts of people I think: the ones who just care about the pretty boys. Blech.
And it might help to know that according to the rules, the 'prompt' is technically optional for the author. Most authors try to accomodate them, but they don't have to. I thought that was the case. Thanks for the info!
