Here, finally, is the last of my requested drabbles. (So maybe it's a good thing I only got four requests... *g*)

Made a Lot of Stops
For seapealsh: Spike&Joyce friendship

The first time, he sobbed his whiskey-sodden heart out. The second time he just scowled sullenly into his cocoa, wishing he had the fangs to eat her with.

But the third time, it came out that this woman with a taste for Nigerian tribal masks and French Modernism had barely been off the continent, had never seen Paris (smelly) or Giza (dry) or Machu Picchu (a bloody long ramble just to commune with rocks, however ‘wise’).

Whereas he had a century of travels to tell, and if she noticed him pausing to leave the corpses out, she didn’t mention it.

Excellent! I hate to think of Joyce never having traveled, but it's possible. She can't have been out of her 20s by the time Buffy came along. It's touching that Joyce bothered to ask about (and listen to) Spike's yarns. I know I'm fascinated. It's a big part of the appeal of fanfic!

I kind of think it goes both ways: he has someone to tell yarns to, and she can listen to someone who's been everywhere, practically.

(Also, I would love to see a Spike/Dru bit from you where she convinces him to go see Machu Picchu after it's opened it up to visitors.)

You're so welcome! I had the idea, and then it took me a long time to figure out exactly how to work it out. But yeah, Spike's travels (sans corpses) seemed a safe topic of interest to them both. :)

Wonderful idea here. I'm such a sucker for Joyce and Spike, even though I know we didn't a huge amount of screen time for them together. This is just *so* plausible.

They had very few scenes together, but every one is golden. And while I don't so much care for fic where a closer freindship with Joyce solves all of Spike's troubles, I do love seeing them in fic together.
