Dollhouse 1.9 A Spy in the House of Love
Apr. 11th, 2009 02:14 pmOh my gosh, so much stuff in this ep!
Loved the funky time frame stuff. I am a sucker for anything that fiddles with structure or POV, and I loved this use of it.
Paul finally finds about Mellie - and he goes along with it. He's been backed into a Jossian dilemma, and from now on it's conscious rape. Oh angst, angst. Very interested to see where that goes. Also, Paul's about to lose his mind. Just because they're out to get you doesn't mean you're not paranoid.
Echo shows initiative! "You make people different. You can make me help."
How nice of Topher to break the RSA encryption. Just so we're clear, people, this is considered to be not possible. Honest. I took a whole class on cryptography. Here, have some wikipedia: The security of the RSA cryptosystem is based on two mathematical problems: the problem of factoring large numbers and the RSA problem. Full decryption of an RSA ciphertext is thought to be infeasible on the assumption that both of these problems are hard, i.e., no efficient algorithm exists for solving them.
Adelle/Victor! I mean, Katherine/Roger. So that explains why he gets so many Miss Lonelyhearts egnagements, doesn't it? (Which consequently explains, now that I think about it, why Victor's the one vulnerable to forming crushes and getting erections.) I think I'd like to rewatch all these parts again - there's some serious character study going on there.
Of course DeWitt fences. How disappointed I’d be if she didn’t.
Joss reuses the interview technique from whichever Firefly episode that was, to good effect. And Topher gives a Spike shout-out with his "I don't want to brag" comment.
Boyd: “We’re pimps and killers, but in a philanthropic way.” So Boyd.
I'm a bit confused: was Dominic sending out all those messages to Paul in order to throw him off the trail, or something? Otherwise, I don't really understand why he'd be doing this. Does this mean there might be another mole?
We watch Dominic be erased, and everyone watches. Our entire Dollhouse staff, minus Saunders, are accomplices. Yikes.
So, in this ep: reveals about Dominic, about Mellie to Paul, about Adelle/Victor. Topher tries to give Boyd an out when he thinks Boyd's the mole. Echo shows initiative. Adelle seems to indicate that she's actually upset about Dominic, although I'm having trouble understanding why - how could anyone like that guy? And we've apparently removed the Boyd/Echo dynamic, which I'm sorry to see.
Big stuff all around! Can't wait to see where we go from here.
