various SPN things
Sep. 27th, 2011 07:38 pm1. Now that
lettered has been suckered into SPN, she's writing fic! My favorite so far is Before and After Stanford, a story in dialogue about how things have changed since Sam went away, and what the boys do about that. I loved it.
2. You know I asked a while back about the fanon that Dean stopped talking about Mary's death? Apparently in 1.03 Dead in the Water, while talking to Lucas, he says something to that general effect, although not that he stopped entirely, I don't think. But now you know.
3.
dodger_winslow has some fascinating speculation on Dean as God, metaphorically and/or literally. I'm definitely not convinced of the idea, but it's a fascinating lense with which to look at the show. (
lettered? You know how you were wishing for meta? You should totally check this out.)
4. Is canon ever clear about what happens to the spirits the boys destroy when they burn a person's bones? Do the spirits just end? Do they go wherever they were supposed to go after death? I lean towards the former, based on the what Tessa says to Dean about there not being any second chances.
5. This is the trouble with me. The trouble is I like these shows where the characters toil and suffer (oh so prettily) and perform heroics, but after they've toiled and suffered, I want them to be okay. I want them to get back up and be comforted and healed, to work through the junk they've been hit with, to be whole. And instead things always just get worse.
The other day I ran someone suggesting a SPN series finale scenario that I really, really liked. Basically, the big drama of the season gets wrapped up in the second-to-last ep, and the proper finale is just the boys on the road, on a normal job, being comfortable with each other and at least starting to communicate all the things they need to to get right with each other and the world. Quiet, contemplative, verging on peaceful.
I'm pretty sure we'll never get such a thing, but it's what I'd like.
EDIT: vague spoilers for S4 and S5 in comments.
