Stuff I like in S7
Jul. 25th, 2009 08:44 pmAfter the last post, I thought it only fair to mention some things I did like about S7.
* The BY church scene. I have no words for how much I love this scene.
* The Xander&Dawn scene at the end of “Potential” - one of the winning Xander moments of the entire series, IMO. A wonderful sum-up of the role of ordinariness in the series, and a wonderful bit of bonding for them both. Really, all of "Potential" worked for me.
* According to my notes – because I am a geekazoid and kept notes when I first watched the series – I liked the twin Spike eps "Sleeper" and "Never Leave Me," although I can't now remember why.
* Amanda. Yup. Amanda pretty much rocks.
* Faith! She breezed in like a breath of fresh air. I loved how she stood up for Buffy after the fiasco in whichever episode that was. I love the scene with her and Buffy and the scythe. Pretty much I just love the Faith and Buffy dynamic here, slowly sidling to some kind of understanding and forgiveness. I’d love to see more of them together in fic, post-series. (Recs, anyone?)
* “Selfless.” Better late than never, an Anya episode. Hurrah. Better late than never, the Scoobies face up to the fact that yes, Xander’s girlfriend of three years has been and in fact is again a demon.
* “I used to be a highly respected Watcher and now I’m a wounded dwarf with the mystical strength of a doily,” and other good lines. Even at its worst, this show has wonderful lines.
* Andrew. I think Andrew’s arc is my single favorite thing about the season as a whole, from his reappearance in Sunnydale, through his murder of Jonathan, to his final acceptance of and repentence from what he’d done. I really like the contrast between his epic self-delusion and the evil of his actions, and I love the moment when he finally breaks. He’s both goof and murderer. Plus, he’s the outsider in S7 and can point out all the ironies that Spike no longer has the perspective and gall to voice.
I’m sure there are more, but these are what I remember.
