BSG: this was not a good run of eps
Feb. 5th, 2011 10:01 pmEpiphanies - an episode of flashbacks
Laura Roslin not dead: yay.
Laura Roslin not dead due to MIRACLE CURE effected by Cylon-human hybrid blood via some mechanism STILL UNCLEAR TO ME: laaaaame, show. Lame. Way to pull your punches.
Also, I hope not too many other important people turn up with cancer. This whole exploitation of an unborn child no one even considers human is liable to go very bad places very fast.
Black Market - an episode of cheap-trick non-linearity, where we see the climax and then have to suffer through everything leading up to it. And also flashbacks
Wow, this episode was bad. Ba-a-ad. They never even convinced me that the black market was harmful, other than the completely OTT children-as-sex-slaves trope. If you're going to talk to me about economics, show, then TALK TO ME ABOUT ECONOMICS and drop the melodrama.
Also with the gratuitous Lee backstory that I didn't care about; his present-day hooker "relationship" that I didn't care about either; and the murder of Fisk, whose role as commander of the Pegasus I was actually reasonably interested in.
Scar - the same non-linearity trick from the last episode, ONLY MORE SO, and yet more flashbacks
This had the makings to be the best of the bunch, except I am completely unsold on this whole Kara-pining-for-Sam-Anders thing. That must have been some seriously excellent sex they had in their one night together, yes? Or else maybe they connected in some other deep way that I am completely unaware of BECAUSE THE SHOW DIDN'T BOTHER TO TELL ME.
So Kara's downward spiral into alcoholism and petty sniping? I am unimpressed. Unimpressed, show!
Still. There was lots of Kara and also the showdown with
Does Helo have a job of any kind? So far as I can tell, his professional existence consists of talking to Sharon through the glass and being a member of the crowd at public events.
I wouldn't mind if he acquired more of a narrative role, too.
