snick_backupYuletide sign-ups are open. I hear the servers are slow; you might want to wait a day or two if you mind that sort of thing. Also you need an AO3 account, which you'll need to request an invite for, about which see here.
If you've never done Yuletide before and want to be talked into it, here are some things you might like to know:
* You have to offer to write for at least four different fandoms, but you'll only end up writing for one of them, and there are 4298 to choose from.
* You might get to write Dr. Seuss horror. Or Ben and Jerry's ice cream flavors (the new fandom of the moment). Or any number of other fabulous, ridiculous things.
* You can specify which characters you're willing to write for in a given fandom.
* You are only required to write the fandom and character(s) the requestee asks for. Any other details (ships, etc) are entirely up to you. Also, lots of people will give you options. In both previous years, my recipients would have liked slash but also gave genfic prompts, and both were (or had the good grace to pretend that they were) pleased with what they got.
* If you're writing Spike/Buffy for me in a fanfiction exchange, I figure you'll know every key S/B scene backwards and forwards, every line either of them has ever said relating to the events you're writing about, and every detail of backstory that might be relevant. Because it's our ship and we're obsessed, right?
But nobody expects you to have spent the last X years obsessing about Ancient Nostalgia-Tinged TV Show Y. In Yuletide, we're glad for what we can get! I'm still waiting for someone to write me SeaQuest fic, any at all. Don't be intimidated.
(That said, some Yule fandoms are more intimidating than others. Frex, I wouldn't offer Lois McMaster Bujold's Vorkosigan series without having done a whole series reread first. And someone on the flist is thinking about offering for Dorothy Dunnett's Lymond Chronicles, which makes me go O.O)
