Yeah, I know, reviews. I'll get to 'em! In the meantime, here are some initial thoughts about the finale and the season as a whole:

* Okay, so, that thing with Chuck at the end? Where he disappears in a wisp of whatever? WHAT WAS THAT. That was just randomness, folks. Obnoxious, smirking levels of random. Like LOST.

* I am SO GLAD the apocalypse is over. Gah. I can only handle the weight of doom so long, you know? I mean, this apocalypse kept me interested longer than BtVS S7, so yay that, but at the end of the day, so glad it's over.

* OTOH, I'm pretty much done with death as a revolving door. Sure, it was funny back in Dark Side of the Moon when Ash says, "You guys die more than anyone I have ever met," but if you keep bringing 'em back, it guts the event of all its dramatic weight, and you've got nothing to replace it with. Bored now. (Also: WHY DO NONE OF THE LADIES EVER GET BROUGHT BACK FROM THE DEAD. I've got nothing against Samuel Campbell, but I resent him for NOT BEING ELLEN, and I will probably continue to resent every resurrectee from here to the end of time the series just for NOT BEING ELLEN.)

I've caught up with you and just watched the finale last night. The only wank I can give on the revolving door is that they are playing with the fact that the show doesn't go on without the boys and they're rubbing our face in the dramatic problems that creates. I don't think it works. But then, although I'm interested enough to keep watching, I think there's a lot that doesn't work on the show.

Ellen rocked!!

Chuck thing=homage to Kripke. I've sort of made my peace with it, but I was very WTF at first.

I have things against Samuel Campbell!

No, but in all seriousness, I have NO IDEA why they brought back a character that died in THE 70s.

GO WATCH THE COSMIC LOVE FANVID!

Oh hey! I didn't know you were watching along. I do agree that this is often in many fundamental ways not a very good show. Hasn't stopped me from watching, though. :)

It's stupid, okay? It's stupid. This is one of those times when I simply deny canon. Not true. Nope.

I watched the vid, and I have mixed feelings. It is indeed very nicely edited, but I... didn't care? I think I'm much pickier about serious vids than silly ones or ones structured around a gimmick. Mostly this just felt like emotional overload. I don't know.

God!Chuck is excellent for crackfic, though.

Aw, I love vid, LOL. What about SPN isn't emotional overload? :)

Though actually, there's also the Chuck is Jesus theory, as well as the Chuck is a prophet who was raptured to Heaven theory. Oh, and the Chuck is God's vessel theory. And the Chuck is Metatron theory.

Does this mean that this doesn't come up again? That I won't have to deal with Chuck=God semi-regularly? Because I'd really appreciate that.

It's never mentioned again. The writers, in air of mysteriousness, won't even confirm or negate what that last Chuck scene was supposed to be.

But it's a huge retcon, no matter how you look at it. But you can easily decide he's something else besides God.

I decide that the scene didn't happen. Half of what bugs me is that, despite his prophet status, Chuck was so gloriously normal. He was like a real person that I might meet (and then be skuzzed out by; Dean's virgin/hooker comment was not for nothing). And it doesn't really matter what I decide Chuck was, if he wasn't just human, it negates so much of his appeal.

You should go read my little 6.2 post instead of this. It has happy flailing in it instead of whining. *g*

I suppose. I'm not very flaily about anything in s6, though. I'm more interested in your in depth thoughts about the rest of s5. :)

I'm going to have to rewatch some things, I think, but yes. I'll see if I can get another set of eps up today. Or tomorrow.

ETA: You realize, right, that were it not for you and Ghostyouknow and ever_neutral, there's no way I'd have kept this up this long? I'd have watched the show, but I'm pretty I'd have gotten worn out on the ep-by-ep reviews if I didn't have you guys to talk to. So yay, thank you for gif-ing me and squeeing with me and leaving veiled hints. Y'all are the best.

Don't get too far in S6, LOL, part of the fun of ep reviews is not knowing what's going to happen. Talking about 5.18 when you know what goes down in 5.22 is more looking back, not looking forward. Of course, that's purely less fun from my POV, becasue then I can't leave you veiled hints. :)

But honestly, I'm not sure how good I'll be with veiled hints for S6, or how much squeeing and gif-ness I can provide. And I have resolved to quit bitching. I'm all bitched out. I don't mean to give you the wrong impression about things going downhill. SPN S6 is much like BtVS S6. Some loved it, some loathed it, and there's very little middle ground.

I do try not to put any explicit looking-back into the actual ep reviews, to save people coming after me from spoilers. But I do see what you mean. I've been watching S5 in such a rush, though, that I haven't even had a lot of looking-forward thoughts. I knew Sam was going to die somehow, more or less, and I was looking at everything with that perspective (which is why I try so hard to avoid spoilers in the first place! Grr!).

But yes. I'm definitely going to have to rewatch The Song Remains the Same (which I think was one of my favorites of the latter half of S5) before I write about it, and maybe My Bloody Valentine too, to see why on earth it prompts so much fic. I usually have an idea of which episodes are important just by how often I see them mentioned in spoiler summaries, so I was expecting something big from My Bloody Valentine. The Dean/Cas manifesto, maybe, judging from the title. But no. I was pretty underwhelmed.

I haven't noticed that MBV prompts that much fic. Though I suppose it could on the Dean/Cas end of things, since there were a ton of codas about Cas finding Dean angsting at the sky, LOL.

Also, S5 CROWLEY.

And have a crack!gif while I'm at it.

Also, if there was a Dean/Cas manifesto, it would be somewhere in here:

Speaking of which, I should probably link you to the Casifesto, which is a meta on Castiel's badassness and sneakiness. No worrying about spoilers, it goes episode by episode, so you can stop whenever you want.

Hah hah, I definitely noticed that line and thought of Dean/Cas shippers everywhere.

The Casifesto is very cool! I always appreciate it when fans actively avoid whitewashing a character. Whitewashing drives me nuts. As does character bashing. They're opposite sides of the same problem of stripping away character complexity. To which I am opposed.
