All the things I "know" about Supernatural

goldenusagi asked me how much I'd been spoiled for SPN, and since I rather feel that my TV watching is a spectator sport anyway, I thought y'all might be amused by a list. Please don't confirm or deny any of my notions; I don't want to be spoiled any more than I already am. :)



* Sam and Dean look for their dad John. Eventually they find him, and then he dies to save someone's life (Dean, I think?).

* Sam becomes psychic eventually. It has something to do with a demon with yellow eyes. This is part of a long-term plot arc that started when he was a kid and didn't get killed by the thing that killed his mom.

* There's a woman named Jo. She either turns evil, or she dies. I forget which.

* Ditto a woman named Ruby.

* There's a guy named Bobby who helps the Winchester boys sometimes. He's grumpy.

* There's a guy named Chuck who writes prophecy about the Winchesters and calls it fiction. Or possibly fan fiction.

* An angel named Castiel shows up and steals the body of a guy named Jimmy. He only has metaphorical wings, mostly. He's asexual, being an angel and all. Dean may or may not be trying to change that.

* There's a war in heaven. God is missing. Lucifer seems to be winning.

* Meanwhile, Gabriel is a trickster angel who drops our heroes into the middle of Grey's Anatomy. (I saw about five minutes of this ep once.)

* To save Sam, Dean spends some time in Hell. Eventually he and Sam both are alive and on Earth at the same time.

* But! By then Sam has lost his soul. Also his hair gets really long. (I blame this conflation of facts on st_salieri.)

* Gabriel dies.

* Sam gets his soul back.

Most of what I know I've picked up from reading friends' LJs - I didn't ever expect to watch the show myself, so I didn't worry about spoilers. And then I've read a wee bit of fanfiction here and there.

I read this and for a second thought you were coming in already a Dean/Castiel slasher (ghostyouknow27 tried to start me with this view. I will not tell how I ended up, so as not to spoil). There are other explanations for your statement that could make sense, but I'm not sure where you got this idea. :)

I don't believe the Grey's Anatomy thing is plot-critical, no. I've seen the ep mentioned here and there, though - I gather it's about on par with "Smile Time" for "crackiest crack this show has ever produced, and also a fannish favorite."

What is it with long hair and soullessness. Is that, like, what you do when you lose your soul? Because there's Angelus, and there's Spike and his cute, uh, ponytail, or whatever the historically accurate word is for hair worn that way...

That last line was pretty much a shout-out to goldenusagi, who's the person on my flist who talks about SPN the most and who also ships Dean/Castiel pretty hard. I myself certainly don't ship them at the moment; I've never so much as seen a clip of Castiel (although lots of stills!), and I have absolutely no sense of what he's like, much less how willing he'd be to randomly shack up with a human. Besides, it takes some pretty solid canon support to get me to buy a slash ship.

I am partisan, yo. Based on a whopping four episodes, I am a Dean girl ALL THE WAY. Which is a bit disconcerting; I don't necessarily want to get really excited about the cocky would-be womanizer. But I can't help it! And anyway, he reminds me a lot of Spike in some ways, and I like him for a lot of the same reasons I like Spike. Again, based on four whole episodes. *g*

Yep. I started in January, I think. I watched all of season 4-6, then went back for 1-3 when I loved the characters already. I actually watched 2-3 this past weekend! (I got stuck in s1 and should have just skipped to the last few eps).

I loved Dean by episode 4 too, which was the last season 1 ep I watched before going ahead to s4. All per instructions.

I think it has a few big contenders for that, actually. ;) But I do think it was written by Ben Edlund (who wrote Smile Time), as are most of the cracky, crazy episodes.

Yay! :) the squee is still very fresh here. And I am (almost) a fanfic virgin. I very partially watched so I could read [Unknown site tag]'s fics. And there was one awesome one [Unknown site tag] recced that you should read when you get to know Castiel though. She's like my SPN mom.

Ack! That's what I get for taking the annoying time to write the html instead of just naming names. :P

The first is GoldenUsagi, but I read St. Salieri's fics and loved them (it's a Spike/Buffy/Dean threesome, post NFA established couple... Weird concept, I know, but once you see more of Dean, it kinda works). I don't knowvthe last author. Must remedy that.

The second is GhostYouKnow27, whom I will of necessity mention in every post I make on this topic. ;)

I read the pre-shippy parts of st_salieri's fic and liked it quite a bit.

izhilzha isn't terribly prolific or well-known; I actually know her from outside fandom. SPN would be the first of her major fandoms that I'd be familiar with, so I'm excited to finally read more of her stuff than the odd Firefly piece here and there.

I AM OBSESSED WITH HIM. Seriously. I was perfectly happy not getting involved in the creative side of SPN fandom, until Gabriel was just like, "Write fic about meeeeee!" And I discovered that his voice just comes very easily to me.

And I think the Grey's Anatomy ep just got replaced as the crackeist episode last week, LOL.

And Ben Edlund has written some of the greatest SPN eps of all time.

Me, too! :) Dean/Castiel is my first slash ship ever, if that tells you anything. But even if you don't slash it, Dean and Castiel have a "profound bond." It's canon. :) But seriously, they really do have an awesome and unique relationship.

Also, I just have to say that I am looking forward to reading your posts. Especially right now when SPN people are sort of divided over S6, it's nice to revisit some early season stuff by watching someone else watch it. :)
