Am quite behind in S8. Have not read Promethea. Have not read any Alan Moore at all, actually, although I mean to read Watchmen one of these years.

However, I can offer you Batman vs. Bertie Wooster.

Methinks Bertie the Caped Crusader would be a fabulous Yuletide prompt...

My first question: who in the heck is Bertie Wooster?

Speaking of Yuletide, I'm thinking about participating this year. Mostly because there's a few fictional areas I'd love stories from (see: Dragonriders of Pern... though has McCaffrey frowned upon fanfic recently? Can't recall) and I think it'd be an interesting challenge.

Bertie Wooster is one of two key figures in a series of comedic novels by P.G. Wodehouse. He's a wealthy young gentleman in early 20th century England who is forever getting himself into ridiculous scrapes and being gotten out of them by his eminently dignified and sensible valet, Jeeves. I'm actually not a huge fan of a the novels because Bertie's (very distinctive) first-person narrative voice grates on me after a while, but Hugh Laurie and Stephen Fry did a TV series, Jeeves and Wooster, which I think is marvelous.

And hey, it seems they feature in a volume of the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, which I'd forgotten is also by Alan Moore.

I don't recall any McCaffreyian proclamations about fanfic one way or the other. It's possible. I highly recommend Yuletide, though. It's great fun and, as you say, an interesting challenge to write fic for a canon that one hasn't been immersed in for several years. I may be just slightly excited about it this yeas - I've been collecting prompts since about February, I think.

McCaffrey's OK with fanfic as long as you A) create your own characters and don't use hers, and B) keep it canon-compliant, i.e. no male gold riders or blue dragons popping up etc. At least, that was the situation back in the 90s when I briefly considered joining a weyr. I suspect that the advent of the internet means that there's a lot of Pern fanfic out there now that doesn't follow her rules.
