* This Rarewomen fic is finally turning into something I like. You know how there are fic that you can write in one or two sittings? And then there are fics that you write 300 words for, and then you have to go away, and when you come back you delete the last fifty and write another 300, and so on? This is definitely one of the latter.

* I have my Fic Mountain and Not Prime Time assignments! Fic Mountain will require a tiiiny bit of new canon and some review of old canon, but should be fun. No worries there. And the NPT assignment is a great fit, so my trouble there is mostly narrowing down what I want to write.

* Yesterday in a pile of papers I found part of a hopelessly self-indulgent hockey fic I started writing longhand a month ago. I thought it was lost forever, but lo, it is not! So, yay, even though all 1600 words or whatever I have will need major rewriting if it's ever to see the light of day.

* In the department of "I don't have to write RPF, because the media writes it for me," have an article about Sid and Geno and leadership and stuff. Also FEELINGS. Lots of feelings.

Ventured out to find an LCS today. It wasn't terrible? It looked pretty well organized, but it felt not well lit enough, I was the only customer most of the time I was there, and the music was loud. I was not all that enthused. Next time I'll go find the other LCS, which I'm pretty sure is the one that had a table at GGC.

Yahoo Sports had this to say today in a write-up of the Rangers/Flyers game:

One wonders how [the Rangers will] do when the Penguins occasionally roll out their super-line of Sidney Crosby, who's so due his belly button popped, Evgeni Malkin, and some third guy.

*cough*

*choke*

I'll just leave you with that image.

Soooo, the CBR forums, widely known as a dudebro cesspit wherein comics are sometimes discussed, have just been rebooted after years of accumulated posts. Per the article linked, this was prompted largely by the vitriolic response on the forums to someone critiquing a comics cover a couple of weeks ago. Specifically, a woman critiquing a comics cover. It's been the latest talking point in the sexism-in-comics discussion, and I am well pleased to see the CBR site use it as a motivator to overhaul the way their forums do business.

But.

But years and years of accumulated posts! Some of those threads were into the thousands of posts over the course of as much as ten years. And those posts are going to be, apparently, completely unavailable starting two weeks from now. So I am torn between \o/ and DDD:

I am sorry, all my people who don't give a darn about hockey.

* Pens move on to second round! Yay! Geno hat trick! YAY!

* In the post-game interview on Saturday, people asked Geno about his scoring drought, and he said several times, "Every game, I try to score." I really wanted him to repeat it again in this post-game interview; it would have amused me. Because my gosh, the media is annoying.

* So many of these media questions are SO inane. "How good did it feel to score a hat trick?" "How important was winning this game?" How do you even answer that? Do you throw your arms out and say, "It was this important!" Alas, no one ever does that. Presumably PR tells them not to.

* Someone asked Geno last night about the near-disastrous last ten minutes of the game, during which Columbus scored three goals. Clearly disgusted, he said, "I don't know. Not ask me." It was pretty terrible.

* As I mentioned before, I'm maybe more invested in Fleury's playoffs redemption than I am in the success of the team as a whole. He wasn't great this first series, but nor was he terrible, which is more than can be said of his previous couple of playoff outings. Josh Yohe at the Tribune pretty much sums it up:

Fleury has finished each of his past four postseasons with a save percentage under .900. Despite his team playing stretches against Columbus that could hardly be described as responsible hockey — “Those are our mistakes, and he's cleaning them up,” Niskanen said — Fleury was statistically solid if unspectacular against the Blue Jackets, finishing with a .908 save percentage.

Not Prime Time, for fandoms with between 200 and 20k works. For example hockey. Also Captain America (movies), the Hawkeye comics, the Young Avengers comics, and lump "Marvel (comics)" and "X-Men (comics)" categories. Signups close April 30.

Night on Fic Mountain for rare fandoms, so basically a mid-year Yuletide. And is that not the best thing? A rare fandom exchange that doesn't conflict with the holidays! And there are lots of comics titles nominated!! And also other things. :D Signups close... soonish?

The Guest House is a LIE: A PSA, in which a creepy stalker dedicated journalist argues that Sidney Crosby has spent most of his time as a Penguin living on Mario Lemieux's third floor, not in his guest house. On account of there's no clear indication that Mario Lemieux even has a guest house. On one hand, I am fairly irritated by the "not living by yourself even though you can afford it" = "not functional adult" theme in this piece. OTOH, it's always nice to sort the fanon from the canon, as it were. Also my heart is completely warmed by, you know, family-like relationships, including teenage hockey stars living with the owners of their team.

The Name of the Briar Rose: In Defense of Aurora - really neat discussion praising Sleeping Beauty as pageant or spectacle instead of story. I agree whole-heartedly. It is IMO possibly the most beautiful films of classic Disney, and if you think the stylization is a bug instead of a feature, then you are wrong. :)

Author, thank you so much for writing a fic for me! As you can see, I am ALL ABOUT COMICS right now. I will thrilled to get fic for any of these fandoms. I know I wrote lots more for some of them than others, but that's because I'd already written up requests for some of them for other exchanges. Whichever fandom we matched on, I am excited about!

STORM #1
MARVEL COMICS
(W) Greg Pak (A/CA) Victor Ibanez
CLASSIFIED

The 'classified' presumably means it spins out of the Original Sin event, aka the Dead Watcher Murder Mystery.

Does anyone have any feelings on Greg Pak? He's bibliography is a real hodgepodge and doesn't have anything I'd even want to read, much less anything I've already read.

Full solicitations listing here.

Thoughts:
- Oh look, yet another artist for X-Men. Matteo Buffagni, whom I'm not familiar with but whose work looks fine. That's six artists in 17 issues, unless I've missed one: Coipel, Lopez, Dodson, Anka, Mann, Buffagni. That seems excessive. I'd care more if the writing hadn't become such a complete train wreck.

- Rock He-Kim is back on X-Force; apparently the Jorge Molina issues were just fill-in. Feh.

- I know just enough about Runaways to be mad about the Avengers Undercover solicit.

- Meanwhile, the solicit for Black Widow:
BLACK WIDOW #8
NATHAN EDMONDSON (W) • PHIL NOTO (A/C)
• On a snowy night in Prague, Natasha must fight her way out of disaster alongside the WINTER SOLDIER!

Given... events, I wonder if this is flashback issue, or...?

- The Moon Knight cover is sooooo pretty.

- IDC about Cyclops, but "Young Cyclops has space adventures with his space pirate father" is the kind of premise I can get behind. Also, Greg Rucka. I await reports.

- Has anyone read any of the new Wolverine & the X-Men? I got reeeally tired of the old one, but the new looks to be putting more emphasis on characters I care about while toning down the zaniness a lot.

Huh. )

Anyway, overall, I really loved most of this series. Great characters throughout, great acting, some really spine-chilling moments, neat cinematography, neat music. Well worth the two seasons.

This is my first time participating in this exchange, because this time last year I had no fandoms that qualified, and between then and now I have fallen in love with comics and hockey rpf, and CA:WS happened, too! So know, dear author, that I am caught up in the first flush of excitement for all these fandoms and cannot wait to see whichever fic you choose to write for me.
